MY GSR BUILD

Hey guys, as the topic states I'm in the process of building a Poormans type R. I have already aquired a 99 gsr block, blockguard, b18a crank and manley LS rods.
I do plan on keeping it N/A and I am hoping to make between 200-220whp after my first tune. My intended parts for this build include(actual parts may vary):
Ported and polished GSR head
Supertech Valvetrain(flat face)
Skunk 2 Valve springs
New Valve guides
Cam ( still not decided )
Arp head bolts
Tri Y headers
Skunk 2 or Edlebrock Intake Manifold or possibly ITB's ( will need advice with this decision )
Honed GsR block
Polished LS crank
High Comp Pistons( 12:1 - 12.5:1 can't decide because I plan on driving my car daily )
Manley LS Rods
ARP rod bolts
Hondata S300
Hydro GSR tranny ( I'd be lucky if I got a lsd )
Etc

Wish me luck with the build plz and I do hope I will be able to receive some sound advice from u all. Looking forward to ur help as well as the finished product. :woot:
Thanks in advance! :thumb:

for your cam shaft, i would use a bisimoto level 2 cam shaft with his adjustable cam gear.. other then that, id say use the edlebrock intake manifold as well

good luck with the build y0!
cant wait to see the number it puts down :thumb:

you want to use a magnus intake manifold, they are more money but definately worth it, i use them on every N/A engine that the dude is serious for horsepower, check out they're website

http://magnusmotorsports.com/?page_id=5 ... duct_id=28

and cams, the max you should go for a "reliable" street car is stage 2, anything above that is too aggressive and will cost you lots of money for tuning.. not to mention running high octane gas.. :thumb:

Thanks guys. I was thinking about getting the Bisi Cam but the question is are they worth it... Wouldn't toda's be better?

And as for that intake manifold I do like it but I'm a bit worried it would overwhelm my motor and possibly it would just fall on its face( seen something similar happen with a victory x manifold on a built gsr). Feel free to correct me if I am wrong, I'm no know it all lol.

actually if the car is timed right, you wont have a problem, how is having the ability to have more air in your engine a bad thing?

if you do not upgrade your injectors and adjust your fuel curve by way of tuning the ecu with either crome or hondata, then YES your car will fall flat on its face,

we build many N/A cars and turbo cars as well, and we have never had a problem,

if money is tight you can always go with a blox or skunk cam, they are cheaper in price and perform the same duty....

I do see ur point with the intake mani issue.
I plan on using bisi or toda cams without a doubt. Thanks for ur input, it is truely appreciated.
But here is another thing I'm concerned about; will the gsr AFTERMARKET pistons fit my Manley LS rods? And also wat compression do u guys suggest I use for my dd beast? I want at least 12:1

UPDATE!

So I aquired a 98jdm gsr head plus a brand new skunk 2 intake manifold for dirt cheap off my boy, so by by to the b16 head idea.
Now I'm kinda stuck. I keep hearing about ppl blocking off their oil squirters whenever they use the LS crank in the gsr block and some ppl leave them in there, why is this?

Without the B16a head its not a Poormans Type R.

You will want to get the block line honed for the crank as well. You might end up having to ditch the oil squirters as well. You wont need 12-12.5:1 compression to make 200 whp. You build looks pretty good.

If you want Toda cams let me know, I have a set for sale.

Will pm u about the cams once I get home.

As for the build I know its not a poormans R anymore and that's why I edited the post  . That's the thing though, I want more than 200WHP. Most of the dudes I know are coming out super hard! I'm among the few that will be running a B series. @ the top of my list is a 280whp all motor K four door EM. I know I won't be able to make that amount of power but I wouldn't mind being relatively close. :thumb: its go hard or go home right? I want to make the most out of the build.

So wats the purpose of bending or blocking the oil squirters? And wats the pro vs con of doing this?

The GSR block was designed for a certain stroke. When you add more stroke and beffier rods there is a chance that the rods will hit the squirters.

Ive seen B20/vtecs hit around 250whp but thats a 12.5:1 CR and above motor with lots of work done. I dont think a stock bore GSR will get that high.

That's a good point. And K bores are huge! My bore has been bored, I'm @ 81.5mm right now. Contemplating to just go to 82mm and call it a day.

Oh I see. So wat are the consequences of blocking off the squirters? I'm assuming one benefit would be more oil pressure :?
