#216876 I was wondering what would happen if u used an obd1 ls head on a 96-98 crv block. would that give u a similar hp rating to the 99-00 spec crv. because that would allow the b20 to be obd1 and have good hp as well as the torque, without having to look for a an unmolested 99-00 spec. jus wondering :P

#216882 as long as you put 99-01 b20 Cams into the 97-98 head it will help with power, However the 99-01's have different pistons to bump up the compression from 8.8:1 to 9.6:1

the B18b and b20b heads are pretty much identical heads. there is no reason to swap heads. You have to take cams out to pull the head off a B Series so just swap cams and call it done.

#216886 Ok i get it, so i might at well get a 96 spec thats not too bad and jus get a cam with the other working components for the head and call it a day

#216888 even 96spec b20s have 100lbs of torque from 2k peaking out to 131lbs at 4300RPM.

And thats with the Restrictive Airbox and exhaust honda puts on the CR-V. Put in a Cold air intake and nice header and exhaust system. let the engine breath and it will perform.

What transmission you bolt it to will make a HUGE difference. with the b18b LS transmission D16z6 Coupes/Hatchs will be faster then you, however you will get good fuel economy and it will make for a good torquey crusier car. If you want speed go with the b18c GSR or B16 Transmissions. The GSR is about 500rpms taller then the B16 Transmission so it will help with freeway cruising but are pretty close in ratios.

#216894 Thats good to hear, i was considering a 96 spec b20 with a stage 1 crower cam and head kit, ceramic header, diy icebox with a gsr tranny. nothing too crazy but till wanna have fun

#217002 All the USDM B20s have the P75 head. There are some variances in the Cams for all B20s made worldwide. The main difference between the B20b and B20z is like Chrono said, the pistons.

96-98 B20b = 8.8:1 126/131

99-00 B20z = 9.6:1 146/133

The Japanese got a true B20 head which is different from the us spec P75 heads. Its the P8r, which is a 47cc combustion chamber and has the bigger VTEC valves in it. The chamber is also sized for the 84mm bore the B20 has.

If you get any B20, i would suggest the B20z unless you are replacing pistons and such.

#217035 Sounds like the b20z is the way to go, are there any limitations with this motor, other that the weak cylinder walls?

#217050 Other than the walls, its just like an LS.
