#223039 so i just bought a b18b swaped 92 vx hatch and it idles like crap and running rich as all hell...i drove for an hour and used half tank of gas...it has check engine light on so i jumped the plug by the ECU and pulled the codes
21= VTEC spool solenoid valve
41= primary oxygen sensor
10= IAT intake air temperature sensor

would fixing 41 and 10 fix my crappy idle and excessive fuel consumption?
and why am i getting a code 21 when its not VTEC?

any help would be greatly apprecieated

thanks

#223050 would there be a way to get rid of that code if i am using a VTEC ECU?

#223056 If your using a stock ecu for the vx which was intended for a single cam D15Z1 which is vtec without getting the ecu re-programmed there is not way of making it work, to my knowledge anyways.

Not sure how the beast is even starting with the ECU, so maybe you could provide us with the model of the ECU to further know what your working with.

Just in case you need information on it

With b18A/B ECUs fairly easy to find i would opt for that to be the first money spent, if indeed your running the wrong ECU.

#223060 The P72 ECU came in both flavors, OBD1 and OBD2 i would say your ecu has to be 94-95 GSR because of it plugging directly to your car unless you have a OBD converter in between.

Yea if the motor is a B18B (thats the casting number on the block correct??) i would definitely start with getting it the right ECU to run it.

The fuel/ignition/everything maps are going to be completely off for the non-vtec motor.

With it being a GSR ECU i can slightly see how its starting, if it was the single cam ECU i would be in complete awe lol.

You should easily be able to get your money out of the GSR ECU once you replace it with a LS ECU.

#223062 Hmmm i actually have 2 LS ECUs lol, but both are about to be put to use ...

i would start on egay

unless someone has one from these boards

#223063 Like RPGonzos_EJ said, sell your ecu on craigslist or post it up for WTT even here in the forum. But you for sure can make more money selling yours and buying a LS ecu.

#223065 i actually might keep the ECU for that purpose later on in life, but for now its just going to stay non-VTEC and maybe turbo sometime next year...

alright so the best thing would be to get the P75 and install then check the codes from there? maybe it will clear them all together?

#223068 You still may get the O2 code, if the car was running rich enough i have destroyed them before doing that lol

I would clean out the idle air control sensor at a minimum, they have a tendency of getting gunked up.

The vtec one should completely disappear.

But the car should run ALOT better with that ECU, maybe not perfect but better!!

#223071 Good luck, just a tip if you have local junkyards i have gotten ECUs for a low as 25-30 bucks ... usually if you flash those guys a little cash they will jump at just about anything lol
