Soo i currently have a non vtec d15 in my 92 eg hatch and am looking to do a swap in the next comeing month. What i have in mind is putting a B20 bottom with a b16 head allong with a GSR tranny. will this all work correctly together? and what els will i be needing to do the swap? or is there a better swap that i just dont know about? :?

sorry if these are noob questions this is my first build. :D

doing an LS/vtec or B20/vtec isnt too hard but its not a beginner's swap either.

if you wanting something that's easily swappable
my suggestions would be
B16 swap with B16 trans and Type r cams( or any cams with valve train)

GSR swap

or LS/B20 turbo.

if you are really wanting to do the B20 vtec do some research first so that way you have an idea of what your getting your self into.

the main things you'll need is
ARP rod bolts
Vtec oil line
LS/vtec Dow pins (or get your head drilled.)

since your going to be building it i would go ahead and get the P72 or CRV oil pump
vtec water pump
LS lower end gasket set
B20 (or LS depending your block) Head Gasket.

it gets kinda expensive but if you build it right you'll be happy with it.

if you have three grand to play with you might get more bang for your buck by spending a bit on suspension mods and a bit cheaper of an engine swap

have you ever considered turboing that SOHC??

i did a B20vtec with my first ever Honda when my b16a block got f'ed up
i didn't know whats what, did a hell of alot research but got tru non the less pretty straight foward.
there's B20vtec build kits available now ( gaskets, oil feed line, ect.)
so its pretty easy to do now,
oh and get it tuned if you want it to last.
it cost me around $5,000tt with all stock parts minus the EMS thats like $1500US
B20vtec = torque monster

Well i desided to do some shopping around and found a shop that can do a full B16b swap for $2,800 is that a reasonable price? :? or should i go for a B18c for $3,000? im also looking into getting a pair of PIC Apex Coilovers before April hits :D

well b16 work really well in eg chasis but if you want more power and a straight swap then go with a gsr but if you can get an integra type are motor then even better

B20vtec is awesome if built correctly. However building and getting an awesome tune on one isn't cheap.

I have had B16's, Although I was happy with it at first, I wouldn't go with one agian. It will be one of the slowest B Series Swaps. The B16b is better then the a b16a, however its still a destroked b18c, spend the extra $200 and get more Torque.

B18C (GSR) Swaps are pretty quick, Not as quick as a B20vtec with same tranny but will be cheaper. You will be able to run a stock ecu as you have a stock engine.

Another option would be a running a Non-Vtec B20 and B16 Transmission. This is what I'm currently personally running in my Delsol, Its quite quick and is faster then a GSR swap w/ITR Cams and Bolt ons in a lighter EG Si Hatch.

If you do with b20 and b16 tranny you should have money left over for suspension work as well. Or you can save what money you have left and pick up the parts to do a B20vtec and when everythings all together pull the engine, build your b20/vtec drop it back in and get it tuned.

hell if you can get the B16B the civic type R id rock that. my friend got his from Hmotors online. and man that motor is a awesome.

same deck height of the GSR and also already has Type R cams (same as the 00-01 integra Type R)

my friend made 175 to the wheels on S300 with intake and exhaust.

since your putting it in an EG you'd have to get a chipped ECU to run it or run S300 and convert everything to OBD1.

you could do the GSR swap but im pretty sure you could find one locally for a little cheaper than $3000.
