B20 head on a ls block ?'s

Well ive actually decided thanks to people over at d-series.org to go with a ls swap since its going to be cheaper than the building up of a Z6 and in the end be more powerful....

Ive already hunted down a couple of cable transmitions and am going to go out and buy a hydro to cable conversion for around 150ish and am probaly going to get my friends Bseries motor from his teg for doing a stock ls swap back into his car.....

What I am wondering is will there be any problems with me running the b20 head on the ls block I know hes had some problems with it not giving up what it should in the power dept. he thinks it could be the head gasket was setup wrong or something by the previous owner.....

What I am truely wondering is what head gasket kit should i get for that motor?, what is the point of this head being on the ls block i know on the sohc motors you put a Y8 head on a Z6 block and you get higher compression is this the same thing?

I plan on probaly replacing all the gaskets getting the motor torn all down for the most part getting the head straightened as a precaution that is....and cleaning up everything who knows might even swap the rods and pistons if i have enough in my budget which right now is non exhistent but slowly growing. What would be the best way to clean up the motor and should I just for precaustionary measure replace the rods and pistons or if I inspect them and they look to be fine then should i just keep them in there and maybe clean the carbon off of them ???

Thank you

I don't know much about B series swaps, but I'm moving this to the B section where you should be able to get better help :thumb:

The LS and B20 head are pretty much the same head. Its the blocks that are different. I dont see why you would be having trouble.

isn't an LS a B18b with the B16 head? AFAIK keeping it LS should give you the most power.

A LS is a B18a or B18b. non-Vtec. the b16 head is vtec. Some people take the B16 head and put it on the Lsblock making an LSvtec. However the LS is a nonvtec engine from the LS Integra, the B18a(90-93) or the b18b(94-01). You might be thinking of the GSR, witch in 94-01 has a different head then the B16 head.

Also the B18a,b18b are the same head as the B20 head. the only real difference is the Cams.

hmmm theres alot of info now....and all I can say is wow same flow as a type r head it just raises more questions but now im on the lookout for a totaled 5spd teg parts car might be going up to a couple yards as well that not to many people know about that own hondas or acuras or any imports for that matter maybe ill find something there.......but yea now the truely hardest part of this whole thing is finding a transmition.(hydraulic)

hydro trannys are easy to find. I can find b16a and GSR trannys all day. but the people want my first born for them.

yea thats pretty much what im talking about i mean I am not going to go as far as to snag a GSR or B16 trans unless one comes along that is inexpensive....im more looking for a Ls trans and really all I can find are ones on ebay but i really dont trust some of the auctions and the shippings killer...

And id love to find a wrecked 94+teg but I have so many friends who are always looking and some work at a junk yard and get that stuff quick what sucks is they wont sell it unless you have alot of $$

the heads and the blocks are the same. only difference in a ls and b20 is the pistons in the B20 are wider to make the 2.0 bar, thats it.

If Im not mistaken the only difference betweent the VTEC and not VTEC blocks are the oil lines for the VTEC solenoid. I could be wrong but hey Im not running LS/VTEC so im not 100% sure.

As far as tranny's go you should be able to find them on your local car forums. That seems to work for me.

How are the blocks the same if the pistons for the B20 are bigger, therefor needing a bigger bore in the cylinder?

B18 = 81mm bore
B20 = 84mm bore

Different blocks.
