#94389 Hi guys, was hoping someone on here would be able to help me before I pull all my hair out or burn my car to the ground.

I recently did a JDM B18c sir-g obd2a conversion into my EG and it failed its MOT on exhaust emissions failed both on CO and HC, but the guy wouldn't give me a print out, he just said it failed a lot and that he would not know where to start. So I had a read of this amazing post by suspendedhatch
http://civic-eg.com/viewtopic.php?t=4679&highlight=failures
I picked up a fuel pressure gauge so I could test my FPR and when running normally pressure is about 46-47psi which according to the work shop manual is about right if a little towards the lean side and my O2 sensor is brand new.

I also checked my base timing using the method in the work shop manual, also changed the timing belt and tensioner whilst I was at it, I have also picked up a new distributor cap, rotor, new leads, plugs and fuel filter, but have not got them fitted yet, as what is on right now seems okay and I was kinda hoping it was going to be one of the things stated earlier since it failed so bad apparently. But with out having a gas analyser I have no real idea if it has got any better.

Also with the limited driving I have done with it, it doesn't feel as if it is pulling like it should which I would guess is related to why it failed emissions, it also still seems to idle a little to high about 1600 cold and 1100 warm but this is going of a standard cluster tacho, I have also cleaned and tightened up my FITV, IACV and checked for vacuum leaks.

The cat I'm using does rattle a bit so guessing it is starting to break up, but I'm sure it would pass with out a cat if the engine was running right as the engine is a 96 on obd2 which is when emission rules jumped a lot, but over here my car still gets tested as a 94 on lesser emission, so thought it would have passed easily.

Finally the only thing left that I could think it would be which I assume most of you will also say it is, is I'm running a chipped p72, as I was not able to get hold of a standard p72, I was told it was tuned for standard internals but don't really have anyway of proving that, the only other ECU I have that I could try on it is a p73 but I don't know if that will be any better.

There are also no codes being thrown by the ECU.

Any other ideas on what it could be? or how I will be able to fix it? would be greatly appreciated.

Dave.

If the cat is rattling/broken inside, then that will hurt emissions no matter how well your engine is running.

#94654 Thought that may be the case cheers for the help though, I have got a shot of a gas analyser for the weekend, and may be able to get my hands on a decent cat, so I will at least be able to see how bad the numbers are, will hopefully post tomorrow with what I find out.

#94858 Woot! Woot! at last it seems to be sorted the new distributor, rotor, leads and plugs sorted it :D

I can't explain how happy I am, it runs beautiful, idles perfect all is good :D

Still put the analyser on it and got:

slow idle 800-1200rpm: CO 0.36% HC 157ppm
fast idle 2500-3000rpm: CO 0.53% HC 71ppm

And from what I can find out about what it needs to be to pass an MOT this is well within the limits, so these numbers seem really low so I don't know how much I trust this analyser.

But hey will get it back in for MOT on Monday, and hopefully all will be good :D

#95227 :( well after all that it failed again but only on CO at fast idle this time, If it wasn't running so sweet now, I think I would be giving up on it.

But don't really know what to do now :(
