#115955 Ok so everyone should know by now i have an ls swap. straight stock, no work done to it. Lately ive been burning oil. no leaks, but a small wiff of blue smoke out of the exhaust during high neutral revs. Well lately ive noticed that the engine is bogging down in ANY gear up till about 3500 rpm. After it hits that rpm it feels like, and im not joking here, like vtec kicking in. Instant boost of power. its not vtec by the way. Is my oil pump going? Clogged maybe? Just before i recieved the car it had a head gasket replacement. Now mind you (and i dont think this has anything to do with it) but my transmition is fucked. 2nd scratches, 3rd doesnt even go in, and 4th scratches. Ive been checking the oil levels and truthfully they havent been that low. every 2 weeks i put have to top it off a little. I dunno whats going on but i know that ever since this problem, the car has been idling normal. Usually it does the honda hop. Share your ideas please! thanks civic-eg fams!

#115960 the bogging sounds like a timing issue. Burning oil, and smoking sounds like the rings need to be replaced.

To check the timing, put the motor at TDC and make sure the cams aare at tdc with the bottom end. Then check the timing at the dizzy.

x2

Once you get your timing set to where it should be you Should get quite a bit of pep back.

Timing most likely wasn't set correctly when they put everything back together after replacing your headgasket.

The Oil Burning/Smoke Coule also be your Valve Seals in your Head could be leaking oil in. If you get a big puff of smoke at start(maybe not all the time) and if you baby it and it doesn't smoke this could very well be it. However it it smokes all the time It very well could be your Rings.

I have that same issue with my Sedan. However I am almost afraid to fix it as It gets awesome Fuel econemy(45mpg in Town)

Thats explains its exactly. Entirely on point. Somtimes big puff in starting and if i baby it it doesnt. So its probably both. My timing is off, and i probably need vavle stem seals. Now with an ls which is the normal procedure for changing them or if someone has done it whats the easiest for someone who has to do it REALLY quickly if he needed to? :hehe: Normally you can remove the head entirely and change, or remove the engine completely (not an option where i live) then change, or remove the timing belt and cams, or can i change with everything in place (i.e. engine cams etc.) right? Cause it sounds like the latter is my only option unless i get it to a shop (dont have THAT many tools and cant do most of the rest here since the association wont allow any engine work in parking spaces. ghey. Even though doing it with the engine together would save time since I would'nt have to mess with the timing belt cams etc. :? Also would i have to replace anything else while im at it or should just those suffice? Im in a glass case of emotions here, help a brotha out. lol!

#115994 its not hard to change them, just tedious. I changed mine before I put the head on. its easier that way, other wise you have to make sure the valves dont drop out of the head. Snap on has a tool just for such a task of taking off valve springs and putting them back on. Very useful.
