#136699 John Hughes, the Chicago-based filmmaker who redefined the teen movie in the '80s with his sympathetic comedies about the joys and heartbreak of high school life, died Thursday of a heart attack in New York. He was 59.

With films like "Sixteen Candles" "The Breakfast Club" "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" "Uncle Buck "Home Alone" and many more all of which he wrote and directed.
