Which garage look do you like better?

Lets say both shops were the same size. Which one would you like most to work on cars in, shoot some pool and drink brews with your friends?
(imagine your car instead of the camaro/rat rod)
It would be used for about 50% work and 50% play

new school, just too clean if you drop a spec of oil or dirt you need to sweep it immediately or soemthing the new school garage dosent look like you can really do any work in it either mainly looks like everythings there for the looks of it all if you know what i mean when the rich buy expensive cars etc....get tools together and have a mechanic elsewhere work on their cars....

old school ilie except for the wood flooring....id like to get the concrete floor with theUcoat it thing done so i have a decent floor....and in case there is a spill or i drop a bolt or something easily lost i can find it....

plus i like the whole ease of access for tool storage its on the verge of being messy but thats perfect because when everything has a storage bin youll be looking thru bins etc.....

i like rugged and dis organized shops way better than wicked clean
not to mention the new school has a nicer counter top in his garage than i do in my house lol

1. clean
2. easy to find tools!
3. easy to find parts like john said
4. just look at at!
5. many areas to work on... aka. tables and chairs and tv to relax in btw

MAJOR flaw about new school

if it gets dirty and doesnt seem like the kinda of atmosphere id want it to be

and last both of them dont seem like their buddy friendly

just seem like its a place to work and thats it!!!!

T should have mentioned that the wood floor would be concrete. I'm torn about a floor coating. The first time I drag a control arm or tranny across it i don't want to scrape through the finish. But it sure looks beautiful!

As for the walls, I have a tough time deciding what route to go. Drywall is nice, but a lot of work & mess to put up. Plus I'd have to put up studs every 2 feet behind it. (my pole barn has a 6x6" post every 8')

If I was to put up OSB 4x8 sheets, I wouldn't need to tape or mud or sand AND I could just unscrew the 4x8 and take it off if I ever need to add an outlet or run wire. Also I would only need one stud for each 8' span. Drywall and osb cost about the same, osb is a little more but less studs and less work.

I feel like wood walls add character, make it feel more like a bar or man cave, less like a museum or showroom floor. This is going to be a functioning garage & man cave where shit gets worked on and drinking will take place when the work is done. :drink:
The new school is so nice, I don't know if people would get comfortable in it.

Not big on the checkered floor, but I love the look of the Corrugated steel on the bottom of the wall, like Chipotle has. I like this look a lot, but I don't know where to find the wood without the lines and words inked all over it.
I think this is a good example of in between the new school & old school...
I could always paint the wood too though.

I'll add this garage to the voting too...

- Sat Jan 16, 2010 3:19 am #168815 I like the inbewteen garage that you posted up, Having stuff hanging on the walls seams like a much better use of space then then just having them look shiny. It just seams more like a garage.

Even havint the wall just be devided up by paint would work out well, Think of those pics with the metal just being white paint with maybe a 1" black line of top of it deviding bewteen the wood and the white. That would a cheap option which I think would look pretty good.
