#192637 okay so my buddy has a JDM D15b in his 97 civic si
it was leaking oil above the distributor because it was never put on right and cracked the block around the dizzy

i got him a D16Z6 head and put it on his today. we used his intake mani because it had all the ODB2 shit on it and it worked well.

it only started to get interesting when i wanted to use the D15b vtec soleniod on the Z6. it just wasnt the same bolt pattern or gasket?
but i thought the D15b head is the same as a Z6 head but just a more aggresive cam?
anyways just kept the same soleniod. then went to put back his old dizzy back on... and wouldnt ya know it, it didnt fit.
the bolt pattern was like putting non vtec dizzy on a vtec.
just wasnt gunna happen.
i happened to have an ODB1 dizzy for the Z6 i hard wired in and it started up.

SO after all this i have a few questions. what dizzy does the d15b head take? i thought it was the EXCACT same as the Z6 because the were the EXCACT same?
also if i wanted to use it again on another car, what do i pull a dizzy from? non vtec d15?
and what about the timing belt. would that mean it would only take a non vtec, D15 one?

or is all just different because its a 97? hahaha i dont knowwwww

#192647 there is an obd-1 d15b vtec, and and obd-II d15b vtec, that could explain the bolt pattern being different, since z6's are obd-1

#192668 There are many different types of the d15b, non vtec, vtec-e, regular vtec, 3 stage v-tec. Pretty much in Japan they just labeled them a d15b. As for dizzy and timing belt, I think you use the ones that match the head that you are using. I was browsing Teal's mini me diy and saw that he used the ones that matched the head.

Yes.

The obd1 d15b that is the equivalent of the z6 requires the oddball z6 distributor. All others can use any obd0, obd1 non-VTEC, or OBD2 distributor.

The easiest way to differentiate them is by the intake manifolds. But if there's no manifold then look for P2J on the head and it's OBD2. P06 is OBD1. You should do a google search and verify this last bit of info.
