#194735 Just checking to see if anyone can help me with my exhaust problem.

I have some issues with with the engine "hunting"

I was told by my mechanic that it was because of the header and hi flow cat not having o2 sensors that is causing it to "dump raw fuel", I might have missunderstood that.

It was also said that was what was causing the hunting.

So my question is.. Is there anyway to make it run right without o2 sensors? My mechanic said there is some type of adjustable fuel system.

Thanks.

#194804 What is the term you hadn't heard of?

Hunting or dumping raw fuel?

Is there a way to attach the o2 sensors
without putting stock exhaust back
on it. I like the headers.

#195001 the bung will work, but you will still have a CEL on. you could clear the code if you want but that wont change anything. the PCM will still just dump fuel because the sensor thinks the car is running lean, o2 sensors have a "default mode" that they switch to when they go bad. in this mode, the sensor thinks its reading the highest amount of o2 that it can pick up. this is the reason the car is dumping fuel, it thinks there is a ton of o2 coming into the engine. this, in time will affect long term fuel trim. im pretty sure its not bad to leave it unplugged, as long as you dont mind a CEL on the dash, or if you have a friend with some kind of scan tool and an obdI DLC then you can just clear it. hope this works.

#195002 oh and as for the headers, they might be too long, in that case (if you want to keep the o2 sensor) just get a sensor with a longer wire. if you dont want to keep the sensor try running a hi flow cat or a test pipe. most have at least one hole for an o2 sensor.

#195067 Oh so I see.

Didn't read the "s" for sensors.

Get an chipped obd1 ecu, with the correct basemap for your b18xxx. This should solve your problem.

Oh and please install 1 o2 for better fuel efficiency/ passing smog tests. Your engine likes your for that,

#195342 Thanks everybody for the help. This is good info. I love my
cars but have always been too busy to do the work myself.
Love the eg civic though.
