#193154 I have started another thread about my D16Z6 swap but also have a question on the wiring, so thought I would start a new thread. I have the harness that's on the D15B7 but also getting a complete engine harness with the D16Z6 I bought.

Question is.....if I use the new engine harness from the D16Z6, do I still have to run new wires for the VTEC, or will the new harness have the wires that run all the way to the ECU? On a side note, I will be picking up a P28 ECU once I find a deal on one.

#193216 if your going to use the harness from the Z6 them you will have to wire nothing!
if you choose to use your B7 you will have to wire 2 new ones to the ECU and one ground i believe.

#193218 So the engine harness from the D16Z6 motor will go all the way to the ECU? Or does it tie in at the shock tower or something?

#193221 if you use the z6 harness u still have to do some wiring. The plugs by the shock tower dont have the wires for vtec that run to the ecu. Unless you have a 92 hatch (any model, they already come pre-wired for vtec i believe), or an ex/si model.

this is exactly what I was going to type, 100% :thumb:

when you get a harness for an engine, it goes to the shock tower. So you still need to go from the ecu to the shock tower plugs

Fixed

#193268 use the b7 harness and cut the 2 plugs for vtec off the si harness and run them through the firewall to your ecu plug in thing lol plug the green one to d6 and the grey one a4 on your ecu thats pretty much it man
theres a great sticky on mini me swaps that explains it better

yea you can do this..... but why would you cut a perfectly good si harness?

I have a dx model and i added two wires to the back of one of the plugs, i dont remember which one tho. One will go to A4 and the other to D6 like mentioned above. This way your car will wired for vtec just like an ex/vx/si model, assuming you have a dx. So in the future if u decide to drop in a DOHC VTEC, or any other vtec motor, you wont have to mess with any more wiring. :thumb: I can post pictures if you want?

I see what you are saying but pictures would be great if you have them. Yes my car is a 95 DX. So the the 92 EX harness on the D16Z6 motor I'm buying will plug into the harness on the shock tower, then I can run the two wires from the other side of the shock tower plug to the ECU and I'm good to go right? Thanks for being patient with me lol

#193487 Yeah. Go to the junkyard and de-pin some wires from the shock tower harness and from the ECU. They don't have to be the right color or from a VTEC car. Wire these de-pinned sections to aftermarket wire in between.

#193804 The yellow one goes to A4: vtec solenoid
The blue one goes to D6: Pressure switch

#193851 Is that the firewall side of the plug on the pass side shock tower? Thats where you wire it from there to the ECU, and then the harness on the Z6 motor will just plug right in right?

Here is a pic of the plug on my car, pass side shock tower:

#196585 Does anyone happen to have any shock tower plugs laying around?
