#205194 so im goin to do a b16a head on b20 block build since my b16a block got damaged and its to expensive to replace....
I know that theres a thread on this but my question is...
Those who have done this build before in your opinion is it worth it?
what are the precautions to take when running it, type of oil ect.?
are there any tricks to make it as reliable as possible?
lastly what kinda of power out put will i be expecting??

#205249 Follow the Build thread to Make it reliable.

Follow it and you will have a Reliable B20vtec.

B20's themselves are quick matched to the correct Transmission. Add Vtec on top and you will be able to smash on K20 Swaps.

#205263 i read the build thread, but im looking for some real life experience opinion on the feel and power of the b20vtec :thumb:

quick, yes, but that is quite the claim. I would have to disagree with you on that one. Unless you are talking about one of those econo k20's the k20r is better designed than to be walked on by some franken build. If you properly port and polish plus cams and i/h/e plus tune than yah it would be a good race but stock k20r>stock b20 vtec

#205558 two things too that video, what did it take to get the k20 to 220 and what did it take the b20 too get to that same horsepower and to be as reliable as the k20 at it.
Also youtube is bad proof, not hating, just saying. Who knows what person posted it, dyno's used for each engine, etc,etc

again not bashing

#205594 My friend had a B20v and it was a strong motor,
-85mm bore
-H-Beam Connecting Rods
-ARP Head Studs and Rod Bolts
-Block Guard and Girdle
-14:1 high comp. pistons w/ rings
-B16a head
-Skunk2 Dual Valve Springs and Tit. Retainers
-+.5mm Valves
-AEM Tru-Time Cam Gears
-Skunk2 Pro 2 cams.
-DC Headers 4-1
-Blox 70mm Throttle Body
-Stock Intake Manifold
-440cc Injectors
-LS Tranny (dont know why, they suck)

It was a beast but it also broke down every other day. Either it was from over heating or it would jump timing. From what i've seen i wouldnt go B20v as a daily driver unless you know you can make it reliable. Also tuning is a must he ran a p28 for a few days and it ran like shit. So that's my personal opinion.

#205632 i didnt see the other questions that you had. My friend ran non-synthetic oil for the first 1000 miles, then started using Royal Purple. For the reliability part i wouldnt build it like my friend did because you will always encounter problems with a motor like that if you drive it everyday. Hope that helps out. And for power he was pushing about 230whp if i remember correctly.

The how-to was and will be from personal experience. It was made from a bunch of people saying what worked and what didnt. Reliable will not be cheap.

since when has it ever been lol

reminds me of a saying:
if you want it fast and cheap it won't be reliable,
if you want it reliable and cheap it won't be fast,
if you want it fast and reliable... it won't be cheap

for the most part yes, but do be careful on what you buy brand name. Some shit is hiked up in price just because it is brand name not because they spent so much money on r&d to develop product. With anything take careful consideration into each part and why you are buying it. There is more to engines than just having huge ports and big exhaust and intakes and throttle bodies. Air velocity is very important when building a well balanced machine. Air velocity in and out of the engine. Post threads ask questions, do research and listen to people with experience.
God gave you two ears and one mouth, so you should be researching and reading twice as much as you ask questions(if not more so). Plus a bonus when you find the answer to your question yourself is that you probably read a lot trying to find the answer and learned much more than you had set out to.
