#203495 Alright i'm going to be buying a poorman's type-r and was wondering what cams would be best for my build? It has high comp. after market pistons from what the guy has told me. And he said i should have around (12.3-12.7 cr). I want to get the most power out of this motor as possible with a n/a build.

#203792 There are a great many cams you can choose from. what are you looking to do with the motor. YOu will want to a complete parts list from the guy too. Ive seen too many times when people buy motors, that the claimed parts arent in them. Make sure you are getting what he is saying.

#204382 i want to fully build it for an n/a. he had it on craigslist but took it down, its a gsr block honed and bored to 82mm, its has an oem head gasket, b16 head with a three angle valve job, the only downside is the guy doesnt know if they are high comp. pistons or turbo pistons.

hook up a transmission (make sure its in neutral) to the block with a starter motor, crank it with 12v and do a compression test

#205483 Yea, a compression test will tell you whether its got a high or low compression.


Though you did say in the first post it was a high compression motor.

#205592 Yeah i'm going to do that i dont want to take off the head to check the pistons because its a brand new head gasket. Would i b16 or type-r tranny be best? i'm going to do more drag than road racing if that makes a difference in tranny choice. Sorry i'm asking so many question i'm new at this, but we all have to start somewhere right?

#205724 depends on the origins of the tranny. Get one with a LSD if you can. the US B16a tranny is the same as the US ITR and 96-97 JDM itr just without the lsd.


I have a extra Vtec head gasket sitting around taking up space.

#205767 Thatts gonna be one badd as build bro :) I do thinl your pistons are high comp but we will def do a comp test m buddys dad has the tester. Also greased monkey that would be cool to grab a HG off you only this bloxk is bored over to 82MM. There for a standard HG wonr work. I was looking at inlines four.com and. They sell 82mm mugen and IL4 HGs but they are like 200bucks :( anywho anybody got some bad ass b-series cams laying around??
