#216263 When police pull you over they scan your plates
Usually if a car is stolen people make a report and if police come across that vehicle once they scan their plates and relayed to the dispatcher it comes up as stolen.

You didn't steal your car. So before those cops go out of their car they SHOULD have known it wasn't stolen unless it wasn't reported

And/or they should have checked before they drew their guns on you

This can be a lawsuit their is no law stating tampering with keys is illegal.

On top of this once police draw their gun they better have a DAMN good reason to do so especially if they fire their weapon.

Really they should have had you step out of your car gotten your ID and detained you untill you where cleared instead of screaming at you with a gun in your face

But if this story is true I believe you have a lawsuit its your car and you did nothing wrong.

#216283 Thats what being a latino and having something looking like a screwdriver in your ignition gets you, like JUICE said.
I fucken hate cops man, when my car got stolen they didn't even do shit. Wish they did that to the thief that took my car.

#216293 They were justified in drawing their weapons. Being in possesion of a stolen car is a felony. And with the screwdriver in the ignition it was enough reasonable suspicion that the car was stolen even if dispatch had'nt confirmed through DMV it was in fact stolen.

Best advice: get a different key.

#216301 ^ here in oregon you steal a car they slap you with a fine and thats about it. it all depends on where you are and unless in the records it says possibly armed/dangerous or you show a visible threat then fuck that they have no reason to draw their guns.
if there was an m1 with a damn knife below the barrel sticking out f your ignition than thats reason to believe you could do harm.

I take my keys out and put them on the roof. It does give them a sense of comfort which in this day and age with cops being shot all the effin time every little bit of comfort for them...saves me from getting shot by them lol.

I had a gun drawn on me for leaning forward with my hands between my legs because I was effin freezing. Made sense though, looked like I was reaching under my seat.

Glad to hear they were at least doing their job right! Not all stolen cars are called in right away. And knowing that hondas are stolen alot and the fact that they looked at the ignition...kudos to them.

#216717 the gun drawing and yelling situation is a bit intense for me i probably would have had to change my shorts.
i carry my 9mm on my hip so when i get pulled over my hands are on the wheel or behind my head rest until the cops feel safe ive been asked to get out and ive been asked not to move but never had a gun drawn on me.

my advise is get a new key. or expect to experience this again.
