#216788 When I go to start my car, it starts fine, but idles at 3,000 rpm. As the engine warms up it will idle slower, but will only even out to 1,200 rpm. Whats wrong? I'm running pretty rich and using quite a bit of fuel.

#216793 well an easy fix would be to adjust your idle by hand once your car warms up. assuming that the 1.2k idle is consistant after warm-up and doesnt drop to normal occasionally.

But it sounds to me like you might have a vacuum leak somewhere.

Yes, thats what i was trying to say. Hopefully thats it, if not i would check your vacuum lines.

But now that i think about it, even if there is not enough slack..the car wouldnt increase its warm up idle to 3k would it? Wouldnt it just be normal still? Or does it operate solely on moving the throttle a certain percentage, unaware of the base idle?

#216806 Just wrote this in another thread with an idle issue here..

hope this helps..

Here a trouble shoot procedure from a fellow D16z6 for idle issue owner..

When u start the car cold generally it goes to 1800 rpms and gradually comes down to about 850 right below the 1000 mark.

If your idle dips up and down after warm up, check the coolant system for air like the guy above mentioned.. with the engince already warm use a 12mm wrench to loosen the bleeder at the top radiator hose. if all air is out coolant should shoot straight up in a steady stream or pour right over the bleeder screw. if air is in the system u will see steam come out followed by a few bursts of coolant until it's a steady coolant coming out.
That takes care of that.

Now if you Idle tends to stay anywhere above 1500+ rpms. it's caused by a few things,
!. Stuck throttle cable, but this is no typial doesnt happen often...

2. Fast Idle Valve attached to the bottom your Throttle body where one small coolant hose connects to it.

3. Idle air Cotrol Valcve Needs replacing or a good cleaning. That's located behind the Intake manifold. air intake cleaner usually fixes this part.

Part #2 if it's not functioning properly then it needs to get replaced completely. It's a $50 new at the dealer..

Hope this helps u out more.. and good luck any more questions feel free to ask that's why we are here!!

#216984 I have the d16z6. For a while it would surge up and down, but now it just idles high. I will check the IAC valve and see if it needs cleaning.
