B7 block with y7 head mini me quest.

but non vtec, and i also herd you might need a adjustable cam gear

but ive never seen it done

- Wed Jan 05, 2011 5:14 am #231510 Yeah i was wondering if ill need to use the y7 or b7 cam gear and use the b7 belt. And i heard something about the oil jets. So anyone with more info can inform me more about it. Vtec is way overrated now a days.

have you tried to google this b7/y7 set up?

ive never herd of this set up so i really dont know much
maybe you can be the 1st to do a write up and let us know

- Wed Jan 05, 2011 1:44 pm #231542 remove the oil jet in the b7 block otherwise your oil pressure will be too high
use all b7 head bolts accept for the top left corner head bolt that will be a y7 head bolt
use a y7 head gasket or a b7
not 100 percent sure on the belt if i recall corectly you are suppose toi use the belt that goes with the head
i would say use a y7 cam gear and belt
or for the fun of it buy a adjustable cam gear just to be safe and to have fun with timing :thumb:
compression should be around 10 to 1 and the y7 head has bigger valves than a b7 so it should make a decent amount more power :thumb:

you want to use the b7 timing belt (because d15's are shorter than d16's).
you need an adjustable timing gear to advance the cam timing 1/2 tooth more to compensate for the d15's shorter deck height.
use your b7 distributor
i recommend a y8 or z6 intake manifold and a chipped/tuned ecu to make the most power with this setup

i just wanna see someone else do it 1st before
i do it lol

but even with this set up he should get a tune?
or just running a stock b7 ecu work?

- Wed Jan 05, 2011 6:42 pm #231592 when i take out the oil jets there are 2 right? do i just take them out of the b7 block?, i tried searching it i was able to locate from another site that i can use b7 or y7 cam gear and use b7 belt. idk bout the cam gear so i just might buy a adj. cam gear. and to which ecu can i use? can i use the b7 ecu? or i have to get it tune?

yeah, you could get by with the p06 ecu, but meh...
correction: use the vx/d15z1 timing belt, not the b7 sorry.

when your running your stock ecu untill you get a tune run higher octane than you normally would id run 91 octane or 89 untill you have a tune
my rebuilt jdm d15b has a coimpression of 9.8 to 1 and i run 91 octane untill i get the cash for a decent street tune

i would start with an advance of 1/2 tooth for obd2 cam index + 1/2 tooth more for a d16 cam on in a d15.
and 16*btdc for ignition timing, but might take some tweaking to find the 'sweet' spot

p06 ecu is more for economy motor with lower compression
