D15, D16, D17 and Mini-Me swaps

#236439 Just wanted to hear some opinions on this. I picked up a z6 completely built minus head for change pretty much. Only thing bad, I don't have the money to boost it right away. I figured my setup for everything if I go the cheap route to be 1500.oo more (If I tune it myself that is), so I am at a dead spot. I have no engine in my car and do need a car soon. I could throw the engine in my car and run it "stock" until I have the money for it to be finished, but I am worried after saving that money for so long I will just buy a bike or something to enjoy now. Anyone have any insight for what I should do? I also thought about selling the engine off for a stock one and some cash to put towards a k swap or my bike maybe. Any input would be nice.

SPECS:
D16A6 block
block guard
SRP Pistons 9:1
EAGLE H Beams
ARP Headstuds
ARP Rod bolts
D16Z6 head (stock for now)

#236454 Just run it N/A for the time being. I did the same thing and kept my turbo parts in the garage where I see them every time I walk to my car and it was motivation to finish the project. :thumb:

Even if you sold the engine to put toward a K swap, you'd be saving up for a lot longer than if you pieced together a turbo kit.

#236585 I have enought it seems like for everything but my turbo right now, where as if I sold the z6, I have a tranny, a racing clutch, a p28 ecu, and a few other things I can let go to get money for the K-swap.

#236613 because the compression is so close to 9:1 stock its really a matter of durability as far as difference between the built motor and a stock one.... im a big fan of NA personally, and i know i would enjoy a k20 better than a boosted d16... but thats just me, if I had an opportunity to trade for a stock z6 withh some cash on the side i would go for it and put that cash towards a k20 (or even a b-series, i happen to love b-series motors) but like i said that is just my opinion, everybody has theyre thing

#236695 Yeah, thats kinda how i feel too. I honestly want a wagovan or ef sedan k swapped, but thats too rich for my blood. I may see what i get offered for it, and if it is a good offer, i will take it, otherwise im finishing a 450hp single cammer slammer, lol.

#236709 K swaps are amazing, but if you don't have the money it can be a pain in the ass. For the money you spend on a K swap you can make a turbo d series that will blows its doors and get better MPG lol.

#236717 I have done the math with parts I can get and a k24 swap for me is 1500.oo, where as to finish my boost project on the budget it will cost me more:
wideband o2 150.oo
Turbo 600.oo
Intercooler setup 300.oo
3 bar MAP sensor 65.oo
injectors 275.oo
guages 100.oo
BOV/WG 100.oo
IC piping 50.oo
fuel pump 100.oo
ARP headstuds 100.oo

thats over 1500.oo there, but if I sold the z6, I could also sell my tranny, racing clutch, p28, and anything I have to make up the difference for my k swap plus the cash I have already. thats why I have such an issue making up my mind, lol.

#236898 I have that list and mine includes a few more other things like radiator hoses, custom thermostat housing, and a few other things and im still less than 1600.oo because I get good deals on stuff. Like really good deals. I surfed for 6 months for a k swap is how i found mine im looking at so cheap.
