- Wed Jun 01, 2011 3:07 am #257606 ok guys my rack and pinion has a torn boot on the driver side and i was gonna go cheap and just replace the boot on it, but then a friend of mine informed me that if the boot is ripped to long and exposed it can get contaminated over time and then the whole rack needs to be replaced. what do you guys think about that? Also my next question is i found a used rack for $75, but the rack is from a ej coupe. My questions is, will a ej coupe rack fit my eg hatch?

- Wed Jun 01, 2011 3:17 am #257610 if the boots are torn, yes the oiled parts can become rusty. when I took my old rack out everything that was supposed to be sealed and lubed was rusty and it made for a super sloppy rack and a noisy one too.

I am 99.9% sure that rack with fit. im pretty sure the only difference would be power or manual

- Wed Jun 01, 2011 3:28 am #257615 ok thanks guys. Yeah i have a eg hatch si and so everything is power on it and i was unsure if a ej coupe one would fit and its power also. I'm gonna go and look at the rack and pinion tomorrow cuz i found it on clist for cheap

and while the one you are replacing is out might as well change the seals yourself and lube it up... dont wnat to just slap it on and the same thing happen.. remember our EGs and Ejs are officially old school reaching it's 20th year of life!!! .

Preventative maintenance is always good!!

- Wed Jun 01, 2011 9:20 pm #257740 Yea our eg's are almost considered old school and things start to fall apart. Also my next question is , I was able to source a del sol power steering rack and pinion, will the del sol rack fit my eg?
