D15, D16, D17 and Mini-Me swaps

#60341 just curious because I am dying to get VTEC back. I have a JDM d15b block with a b7 head right now but I want vtec back like its suppose to be.

#60343 D15b Vtec head, Z6 head or a Y8 head would be the three best options for a Mini-Me setup

#60344 but it wont be a mini-me lol. I have a d15b block.

i'm confused then, so you have a D15b block that should have a Vtec head, but have a B7 head instead? the ones i listed would still work as well, i just thought you had a B7 block and were wanting vtec lol

#60347 Get an OBD1 VTEC head w/distributor and a P28 ECU. It couldn't be more obvious.

#60381 Now I'm confused, you have a b7 so that means it's non-vtec? Weird. I have a usdm d15b7, it is non-vtec but I have a z6 head to put on it.

#60395 I have a JDM D15B Block with a B7 non-vtec head

#60405 We were talking about using a Y8 head, and the idea of an OBD1 to OBD2 jumper harness came up. Would he have to make one or could he just buy one of them seeing's how it is only the head that is going to be OBD2.

if you have the know how you could probably make one, or you could buy one as well, that would work yeah

#60432 read up how to do a y8 mini-me swap (in diy thread). Yes the y8 head is from an OBD2 car, but you don't need to convert to OBD2 to run a y8 on an OBD1 car. Just use an OBD1 dizzy on the y8 head (one from your d15b7 head will fit) and any other plugs on the head itself are the same between obd1 and obd2. Converting to OBD2 to run a y8 head would be a huge waste of time and money. Just use a P28 :thumb:

#60489 Exactly. Just be sure to use an OBD1 NON-VTEC distributor with the Y8 head. The Z6/Z1/JDM D15B/ZC distributor wont allow enough range of ignition timing adjustment when used on a Y8 head.

You'll have to move the IAT into the intake tube (requires you extend the wires), change the throttle cable or make a custom throttle cable bracket, and get an OBD2 charcoal canister. You'll also have to change your injector plug connectors to OBD2 style. Depending on which type of fuel rail comes on the OBD2 head, you may have to extend the fuel return line from the fpr.

In other words, just get an OBD1 head.

#60515 everything above is if he uses a y8 intake manifold. He could use the intake manifold he has now (do port match it though) and it would work. it may not be optimal for the head though. It is best to use the intake manifold on the head it was designed for.

Also, if you do go with y8 intake manifold to compliment your y8 head, you could avoid changing the injector clips to OBD2 by using OBD1 injectors.

Or just keep it simple and buy the head that was made for your block lol.

You can use your OBD1 injectors but you have to use the OBD2 injector O-rings (just for the record).
