#86734 ok, so i've been trying to take this f*!@ bolt of for the longest time and i dont have the money right now to take it to the mechanics, as well as i wanted to learn how to work on my car myself and save some money. The problem is i can't take this off no matter what i use, i've tried a long breaker bar, air tools and still nothing, even rented the pulley holder. What can i do at this point to get my car running? keep in mind that i dont have that much cash at the time due to my girl being pregnant and stupid economy draining my pockets.. i was thinking just getting another bottom end from local shop but doesn't that bring back to square one with the stupid bolt? any suggestions will be appreciated..

#86805 I had the same problem 2 days ago when I did a timing belt on my z6. I ended up taking the starter off and having a friend wedge a long screwdriver between the engine and flywheel while holding pressure on it. I found that off a site where a guy had the same crank bolt issue. After the first 2 loud cracks of the bolt, you could finish with the impact. good luck :thumb:

Edit: and also what teal_dx said... PB blaster

#87077 If you cant get a friend to place the screwdriver in the flywheel. You can also have a friend put his/her feet on the brakes and put the transmission in reverse to aid in holding the engine still.

PB blaster works better because its not just a lubricant its a penetration liquid. WD-40 doesn't seep into the threads of what your trying to remove as much as PB. Try it, let it soak for about an hour or so and it should come out with little effort.

#87261 alright, got the PB blaster and tested its strenght on a rusted, i mean rusted bolt and it took it out with no problem so i'm seeing stars in my eyes hoping this crank bolt comes out the same way. Now i got another question as in regards to where to tie the pulley from moving. Can i take off the oil pan (i'm replacing it anyways since it has a leak) and stick a long bar in between crank from preventing from moving? Will it break anything or am i good to go. I'm planning on doing this but wanted a heads up before. any help is greatly appreciated.. :thumb:

#87262 You would end up taking of the flywheel cover on the bottom towards the passenger side of the engine off.
You should be able to get a large flat head in there and stop the enigne from rolling over.
It is a hell a hell of alot easier to do this with a partner. You should be golden.

#87320 First let me ask is your car in the air? Enough to put some sort of breaker bar or a ratchet with a cheater bar?
Like is stated before, I had a friend put the car in reverse and had him basically stomp the brakes and I was underneath with a deep well socket a half inch ratchet and a home made cheater pipe. Pulled ( found it easier than pushing) the pipe down and it finally popped and became loose. That bolt hadn't been out in I believe 90,000 miles. I think thats pretty close to the time frame being that I was doing the timing belt.
It took a little ass to get it off but don't give up. It could just be that the bolt is being stubborn. You'll get it, don't give up. That will just cost you money that you don't need to spend buddy.

My car was only about two feet in the air due to my 4 ton jack stands.

#87331 craftsman makes a special tool for it
it's a good investment buying the tool

or you can buy the cheaply made "tool" on ebay like i did, it works just as good

The difference is that you won't break as much rusty shit. :thumb:

Don't be shy with the stuff either.
