D15, D16, D17 and Mini-Me swaps

#105131 my current daily driver is a 92 4dr with the D15B7 that uses more than its share of oil, it seems to need a litre of oil everytime i fill up the gas tank. i am broke and need to fix the oil usage issue and have a D15Z1 im removing from my retired 92 VX that used 1 litre of oil in 4000km(2400miles). I had a weird idea wondering if I could put normal non vtech valve train into the D15Z1 head so i can replace the smoky D15B7 without changing the ecu or doing any wiring. at some point i want to convert the 4dr to run the Z1 properly as i miss the consistant 40mpg(now im at a lowly 33mpg if im lucky) but that means wiring that I dont have time for currently with only one vehicle on the road.

#105134 There is no way it will work, Atleast no way that wont require machining and lots of time.

92-00 D Series Vtec Heads are different then 88-95 D Series Non-Vtec Heads, a Vtec head can replace a non-Vtec head. You cant exhange the 88-95 Non-Vtec drive terrian with the 92-00 Vtec(vtec-e inlcluded) heads.
a 96-00 D16y7 Non-Vtec terrain might make the swap as the heads are very similar in design.

You can get new valve seals and put that into your D15b7 head. If your going to swap to d15z1 down the road. I wouldn't touch anything on that engine so its all there for when you need to swap. Non-Vtec heads can be gotten for cheap. I picked up a D16y7 Non-Vtec head for 40bucks to replace the leaky D15b7 head on my Sedan. Check out craigslist and you can get one rather easily and cheaply.

If you dont want to spend that much money on it, I would just wait until you can swap in the D15z1, if you still have your vx hatch you should be able to easily attain all the wiring you will need for your swap.

#105175 oh well. was just a weird thought in my head that. didnt think it would work but ya never know till you ask.

yah I have all the wiring, im stil striping the VX. i'll learn the difficulties of changing the dash harness soon when I pull the dash out.
