D15, D16, D17 and Mini-Me swaps

#108983 Okay, been having some probs with my D series engined civic . Its an automatic also.

When I stop at a light, the car has started cutting out and can be a pain to restart. On occasion it has also cut out as I am slowing down to stop.

I thought this could be linked to the fact that when I hit the loud peddle I see a bit of smoke coming from the exhaust as i accelerate. I figured this could be a cause, something to do with the rings but i am unsure. Its had a recent service and new plugs.

Why do you think this could be cutting out???

Thanks in advance!!! :D

#109005 could be a number of possibliltes

Battery connection
grounds
fuel pump
main relay
short.
etc...

what do you mean cut out when you are slowing down to stop?

#109024 also, could be the rotor button, igniter, or possibly a clogged fuel filter.

Now you mention it. Yes, it came on so i pulled over and had a look at the engine for any obvious problems, i restarted it and the light went away!!

It seems to be runnung okay, then i slow down and when im about to stop, it just dies. Then i try to restart the car and it turns over sometimes for up to 5 secs then starts. But the next time i stop or slow it will be fine

clogged fuel filter wouldn't cause smoke.. if it was bad enough to stall the car, on occasion, at idle, it would kill it everytime he accelerated hard at all..

#109315 *didnt see part about smoking, your right, my bad. 8)

but the smoke could have nothing to do with this problem at all.

#109341 Ive been doing a little research myself and found out they suffer from a main relay issue? does anybody know anything about this??

I did a compressiond test and one of the cylinders was about 12 psi lower than the rest so i guess that the rings need doing. i cant see how this would be a problem though, surely it would be a constant cut out rather than a occasional issue.

main relay then i guess. any idea on the cost of one of these relays?

#109352 12 psi under norm isnt that bad ... i dont know the exact specs, but as i remember, the lowest allowed psi before replacement was 150psi.

When my z6 rings in cylinder three went bad, the cylinder was at 50 psi max. and even then, it started, it just misfired on that cylinder.

Cant remember how much the main relay was but i want to say like $15-30.

word.

but after the compression test brings back a little lower reading that could be the reason for the smoke.. does it smoke full time or just under heavy acceleration?

EDIT: under accel as per your first post.. sounds to me like your burning oil cuz of bad rings.. what were the readings across all 4 cylinders compared to factory specs.. being 12 psi under isn't bad.. but if your whole assembly is 50 psi under, and one is 62, that is really bad.

#115249 just thought i would add something due to the fact your car has an auto. The trans could be failing to come out of lock-up and stalling the engine. I would check the condition of the trans fluid ie; (burnt smell / color), just as a precaution.
