The best setup is a catch-can off of the head to filter and return.
Tecnically speaking no. The PCV system was made for emissions as a way to convert blow by gases into regular everyday vehicle fumes. Obviously there arent many of us on here that are very "green" friendly. There really isnt any "junk" in your head that isn't already in your engine. Yes you have the possibility to recieve some oil from your foul side, but unless you have a serious blow by problem its not much to be concerned about.
I do agree with you its better to have a catch can rather than just the filter on the cover. Due to the fact that oil "could" come out of the cover and really just drip from the breather onto your engine. Nobody likes and unwanted drip.
Turbo vehicles use the catch can method because the are creating so much pressure inside the engine that it "could" blow out some seals that deal with the PCV system. So intern they throw on the catch can to relieve some of that pressure.
To Them, they're just vehicles. To Us, they're a way of life.
