running badly and air from valve cover

- Wed May 13, 2009 4:33 am #116522 ok so my sis bought a 94 cx hatch she was told it needed a tune up....so i replaced plugs wires cap and rotor and its still running rough. noticed the valve cover was leaking so replaced the gasket too and found that it was missing one of the gromets that go under the nuts to hold the valve cover on so replaced it to...cars still running rough and if you hold your hand over were the valve cover meets the head in the back u can feel air coming out

so im guessin that shes getting some pressure built up in the crankcase now im wondering if there is anyways to test the pcv system i pull the valve off and it does rattle

any other sugestions on things it could be or things to try

it does idle rough and when you drive it, it feels gutless unless you rev it up like crazy before you shift then it feels like it all of a sudden gets a kick in power and takes off once its warmed up at lights it feels like its going to die...hasnt stalled yet but sure feels like its going to it almost does then comes back from it and then almost dies then comes back ...so on and so forth untill you start to go again

the car does smoke a lil bit but not all the time usually only it u rev the crap out of it

so any ideas on things to try or things it could be?

- Sun May 17, 2009 5:17 pm #117410 make sure ur vacuums lines arent leaking any where near the manifold, if no check engine lights. maybe check your TPS might need adjustment. . when stopped is the idle going up and down? or does it stay consistent at a certain rpm?..

- Tue May 19, 2009 5:00 am #117690 idle stays pretty much normal....but once its warmed up if you give it gas then let off it will almost die it stays running but just barely but it only does this once warmed up.

compression test will come soon, I have no way of doing a leak down test

im also gonna check the timeing sota thinking someone has played with the distrubitor as theres some clean spots beside the bolts

any other ideas

really hopeing its not the rings....when we bought it, it wasnt smoking but last time we started it now she smokes.....and when u rev it up pretty bad too
