weight reduction

- Wed Jul 15, 2009 11:49 pm #130694 hiya guys, im looking to buy a civic hatch and was wondering what the possibilities are for easy weight reduction? ive heard about taking the back seats out and stuff like that but also wanted to know how to counter weight distribution problems after reducing weight? surely the back end would be too light after taking seats out...those kind of issues. greatful for any advice! :)

- Wed Jul 15, 2009 11:54 pm #130696 you can take out the carpet, and the sound deadning pads under the carpet with dry ice and a scraper.. really it up to you on how much interior you want out. i dont think you will have any weight problems with it gutted. lots of ppl on here have the ass end of ther cars completly empty. what are you planing to do? auto-x, drag, street?

- Wed Jul 15, 2009 11:58 pm #130698 anything really, i'm looking to get the 1.4 and just do odds and sods to it: strip it down, alloys and an induction kit...perhaps sound system just to feel comfortable in it. tbh im just looking to get as much out of the car as possible without doing too much e.g good handling and a bit more speed. thanks for the tips by the way :)

- Thu Jul 16, 2009 12:03 am #130699 what size engine you got? a 1.4liter? if so your not going to be able to do any good upgrades for power. even if ya gutt it out. shit if your just wanting to get out the weight. just leave the dash, front door panels and a seat. put on some 14in HX wheels, get rid of the ac pump if it has one, take out the power steering. if your looking for more then your looking at putting in plexy glass windows, get a carbon fiber hood and hatch. i mean rally it goes on for a while when doing weight reduction. look at it this way. if your car dont need it to drive and run, junk it lol.

- Thu Jul 16, 2009 12:08 am #130700 haha! true...i'll need one passenger seat for any female company but thats it! lol erm...i'm just trying to plan ahead e.t.c and dont want to do anything crazy with it, literally just to make it look, sound and drive good for me to enjoy it...i'm off to uni in september which means money will be very limited but yea...thanks for the advice buddy! any other tips on how to improve handling btw?

- Thu Jul 16, 2009 12:59 am #130710 if you are worried about weight then dont put in a sound system and why are you worried about weight in the first place???? if you want to drive your car as a dd and enjoy it then leave it all in you dont need to mess with it unless you are trying to get 1/4 mile times or auto x... i would leave it alone if you want a female in there aswell sex in eg front seats is a no go!!!! :thumb:

- Thu Jul 16, 2009 1:04 am #130711 well tbh i want handling and speed as my best mate is getting a del sol so i will need to try and keep up round a roundabout lol! you cant beat sex in a bed so she will just have to wait till we get home! haha! its difficult because i need to keep the car practical but i want to do low profile things to it to give it that edge...i'll be going for cruises through mountain roads e.t.c so need a car that handles well and i know the civic is already quite wide and lowish to the ground.
