#136370 As I am sure most of you know I have a EK hatch with a B16a2 swapped in from a 99-00 Civic Si.

I have been looking for a while to find out how much horsepower the stock rods will handle, Its common fact that the D16 rods hold upto about 250 hp. I have heard B Series rods are stronger.

A freind said that LS Rods are good to 300, but B16 Rods are stronger as its a VTEC Engine. However the same kid claims running a Stock p72(obd1 ecu) on a d16z6 w/ i/h/e is better then a tuned p28.

So I figured I would turn to my Homeboys at Civic-EG.

#136506 i cant say for sure, but I know a LS motor, Stock internals was making just under 300 whp and still doing fine. VTEC rods arent stronger just because they are vtec rods. The ITR ones are the only diferent ones because they are made of something different.

I would say 300 max.

#137574 ITR rods are forged and balanced.

All other B-series rods are not. I don't know much of anything about D-series, but that's why I'm here.

When it comes to the ECU, the P72 (GSR) ECU on a D-series is a bad idea. It's designed to work on an engine with two cams, not one. And two VTEC modes, not one. By VTEC modes, I mean intake and exhaust timing modulation, rather than just intake on the single cam engines.

As for the strength of the rods, I've seen 300hp B16A2s run for years on stock rods. Reliably. Boosted of course. I'd like to shake your hand if you're running 300hp NA in a B16...

#137596 My itr rods didnt look or feel any different than my GSR rods. I knew they were made of different stuff, but I couldnt tell and didnt see the point in paying to have the pistons swapped over again.

#137630 I know the cranks can handle 500hp according to HondaTuning magazine but not sure on the rods.

Yeah, the ITR rods are forged. And balanced. And awesome. I don't think they're any lighter than the GSR rods, but they are balanced and therefore rated for higher RPM.

I know running a P72 on a D16z6(or any D Series for that matter) isn't a good or "awesome" idea. I was using that as a point commenting he doesn't know what hes talking about.

300 Sounds like a magic number, Does anyone know of someone Running over 300 reliably?

#137938 Nah, I don't know anyone running stock rods over 300whp. The two guys I know with B16s running more than 300whp are running fully built engines.
