#139489 Good:
Sleeper Status
Cheap
Responds well to Mods such as I/H/E
Good for Nitrous and Turbo Applications
Huge Aftermarket Support
Easy to Tune
Perfect for Daily Driving Stock
Super easy swap, Just had to add vtec wires.
Has threaded bolt holes in block to put in equal length axles off the 88-91 CRX Si.
The Best USDM SOHC VTEC.
Good Cross compatibility with other 88-00 D Series.
EX/Si Tranny has very very similar gearing to the K20A Tranny.(more of a cool fact, Not a GOOD quality I guess)
Faster then stock LS and B20 Swaps

Bad:
Rods only good uptill 250hp
Getting harder to find D16z6's that have not been raped/raced
OEM Clutch doesn't hold much power above stock

I am sure there is more on both sides that I cant think of. Will edit later if I remember anything else.

On a Side Note. I had a Nitrous D16z6 in my old coupe. I have a recently swapped in N/A D16z in my Sedan.

#139492 z6 motors are bomb in my opinion. i beat b18b and b16a all day long.
they seem to have good realiability and are super easy to work with.

but its true that its hard to get one thats not raped. do what i did and go to the junk yard and find the bone stock honda si coupe that looks like grandma drove it for ever and tell them thats the only motor you want is outta that car.

all in all i think the z6 is an awesome motor and would recomend the swap to anyone

#139493 Reliability?

Put it this way, my Z6 with 350,000 km on it pulled 180 across the board on a compression test after being boosted 8 months and hasn't skipped a beat.

Give nitrous a try once you're swapped.

#139524 there is nothing bad about the z6. Its a great motor.

#139532 very good reliability, responds well to boost, and with ~180k miles on mine, it had the factory hone marks still pulling 190psi in all cylinders...

the oiling in the z6 is far superior than the y8 (i'm assuming you want a vtec motor) it has 2 chamfered oil ports in the crank vs. 1 in the y8 crank.

you also have 2 versions of trannys to pick from too, keep your tranny for long gears or get the si/ex tranny for short :thumb:

bad is they leak....at least mine does ---->groove on the crank @ rear main :(

also, don't push the stock rods past ~220whp, they will come through the block lol

#139605 the only con i can think of is i need to change the oil on 3000 miles or else the car is a bit weak. prob my car only but i can def feel a lack of response. oh and it leaks kinda easily too. other than that its a pretty good engine especially for the price. not bad to turbo either.

#140175 ok i got some question about the swap

*will the mounts off my b7 work for the z6?
*will the b7 harness work with the z6?
*will the axles for my b7 trans work with the z6 trans?
*will any parts off my b7 work on the z6 i.e iacv, tps, lil things like that

if there is anything i left out for thw swap could someone chime in!

this is my 1st swap and i wanna make sure everythin is gonna go nice and smooth :thumb:

#140198 *will the mounts off my b7 work for the z6?
Yes.

*will the b7 harness work with the z6?
Yes, you will need to add VTEC Wiring, however the rest of the harness will work

*will the axles for my b7 trans work with the z6 trans?
Yes, all 92-95 Civic D Series axles will work. You might want to get axles from a 88-91 CRX Si as it has an intermediate shaft and then two even half shafts very similar to the B Series. This will stop torque Steer.

*will any parts off my b7 work on the z6 i.e iacv, tps, lil things like that
Most D Series parts are cross comptable. When I swapped a D16z6 into my DX Sedan, Anything that was missing on my z6 I got from my old D15b7.

if there is anything i left out for the swap could someone chime in!
You should replace the timing belt and water pump and such before you swap it in, Getting a new clutch would also be a good idea. Nothing sucks worse then getting a new engine swapped in to have to pull it back out next weekend becouse your waterpump is going out.

If this is the first swap in your car your Wiring connectors are going to be a b*tch to pull off. If you press the tab down then pull evenly on the base of the connector it comes off. The first time will suck alot though.

#140201 when getting a new/used motor and you are unsure of the condition. Always get a new

Timing belt
oil pump
water pump
thermostat
rear main
cam seal
crank seal
dizzy o ring
valve cover gasket
spark plug gromets.

That will take up of you motor and what ever leaks it could/might have.

#140230 ya i plan on doin a rebuild

im gonna try to find a blown HG or somethin
along those lines

but ya i plan on replaceing the water pump, oil pump
all seals, gaskets, piston rings, bearings, valve guilds and seats
gonna get the block crank and head sent to a machine shop
and possably replace the piston and rods and the valves depends on how bad the motor is when i get and how much cash i get :thumb:
