wow really? wtf? so the stock head bolts (being re-used) held better than the ARP's?

#139797 ive seen head lifting on stock bolts more than arps. I autox'd with a guy that switched to arps to stop the lifting.

whoa no no no. don't re-use the old ones. i get all new ones from honda for just under 40 bucks.

I know you guys think i'm dumb, but what ever. do as you wish. every car that has stock bolts holding the head on is making well over 400 and two are over 500 and all are sohc's. for a dohc, i'd go with AEB'S or golden eagle. arps have a problem with the bolt it self turning before the nut does when tightening. i've seen it many many times. and not just when i do it, but the guy that built my bottom end, cortney green, first showed me the problem.

#139804 I believe it... once you use the ARP's, if you over tighten them they can over stretch. Then the next time you use them, they lose their stretch and that's what helps them pull together. That's why it is so important to torque them properly with the ARP assembly lube.
That's why you don't ever buy a used set of ARP's.
The stock head bolts are also stretch bolts and should only be used one time. ARP's are re-usable as long as they are never over torqued.
The stealership sells the d15b7 head bolts for $9/each, which is why I picked up a set of ARP's for $100. (they only had the arp's for a z6, so I was able to take them with me when I build my z6)
I was told that the y7/y8 head bolts are not stretch bolts and can be re-used... figures they are only a few bucks each.

#139830 wo wo wo i heard that arp head bolts are reusable and much stronger than stock...like i said im not plannin anything special right now but still i paid alot for those bolts and dont plan on taking the motor back apart....so if the stock ones are better and cheaper ima be p.o. ed.

anyways the turbo kit is all peiced together.. thats why there is o engine managment in it.....its all greddy piping, greddy header, greddy type S bov, trust intercooler, with a mitsubishi turbo thats got internal wastegate. the only problem with getting the turbo is i cant afford the ecu software and then really cant pay the " scrilla :hehe: " to have it tuned :(

i wanna go turbo super badly but there is just too many missing links in my knowledge to do it. if there was a Diy somewhere that EVERY SINGLE part i needed and how to run the vaccume lines i could do it but mainly there are just sooo many little pieces i get confused :?

i wasn't doubting you, it just seems counter-intuitive, that's all... i'm kinda confused now, well i have my ARP's and only torqued them down to 65 ft-lbs because that's ~80% yield and when people goto 75 ft-lbs or more, that's past the yield then they stretch so i can that with ARP's.

i enjoy learning new things...intrigued :hehe:

93hatcheg, you can PM if you have any/alot of questions, i just pieced together my turbo kit from ebay parts (yeah yeah) so i can help you out...it's a z6 right?
