#142050 So i'm driving home from COTW(Chicken On The Way) and I turn right onto crowchild from kensington. Driving home like any other night. Had Sweet chicken and was being sweet. So I get stopped at my first set of lights on crowchild. Turns green and I go. Start to go up the hill and *CLICK* my car decides to stop accelerating and my tach and speedo go straight to 0. My car stops moving at this point so I have my hazards on, on crowchild in the far right lane right before the 16th ave exit. Call the AMA to bring it home and start to figure out what happened. While i'm waiting this cop car pulls up behind me and turns on the lights. Two hot cops get out of the car to see what's going on. Just gonna say:hitit:. But seriously, the cops were so nice about everything.

So I take off my valve cover off and see nothing looks out of the ordinary.

So i take off my timing belt cover and this is what i see

I'm ready to start crying at this point because I realize that i cant drive my car tomorrow!

NOW my question is, i've never replaced a timing belt before, should i go and buy a timing belt tomorrow and install it or should i take it to a shop and get them to install it? Thanks to everyone for their help

#142062 well a real problem here is you may have bent a valve or more im not too sure best you can do is buy a timing belt make sue you time the car correctly by the markings on it and see if she starts if she dosent you may either be off a bit on the belt or worse bent valves.....

id always say work done yourself is best because you know what you did however if you dont feel comfortable nor have all the tools nessasary to do the timing belt with id have a shop do it.....id also do a water pump since itd be something else you should do when do the timing belt....

#142066 a way to know if you have a dropped valve/bent valve/ damaged valve/ take out the spark plug and shine the light in the tube you should be able to see the top of the piston and see the condition on it.

#142101 I've been doing some research and i've found out that the D15 is an interference engine.

Thanks to all you guys for the suggestions. i'm gonna check the engine as soon as i get off work.

that apears to be a d16zc, unless its a jdm d15, timing belts can be a pain if you don't have the right tools, but you would still get out cheaper buying a hanes manual, the correct tools and belt

yea the engine is a jdm d15. I have a lot of the tools that are needed, but i only need to go and get either the Haynes or a Chilton to get all the torque specs for the head.
