#142128 I haven't updated my build thread in a long time but to cut a long story short I had an incident and now it needs to be repaired ... Or does it?

Repairing the car isn't a problem as my dads a panel beater, primary damage is the wing which I'll replace, door can be repaired and the rear quarter can be repaired too. Both bumpers will need respraying too.

Now I received a quote to have those panels and bumpers repsrayed for £1,000!!!! Considering I paid £1,750 for a full respray, and my budget is £500-600 next month and I don't want to wait long as I'm very impatient!

Now what would you guys recommend;

1. Go ahead and get it done and dusted whilst being ripped off

2. Let my dad repair it and try respray it myself, never done it before

3. Buy another EG but the chances are I'll end up paying more to get arches sorted and spraying anyway, plus with that money I won't get an Esi model, but then you could say do an engine swap and put my z6 into the new one but cost to get someone to do it!

#142132 just pay a pro to do it.... you can mess it up bad if you do not know what you are doing... i paint and do body work but if you havent ever picked up a gun then you shouldnt mess with it until you have learn how on test panels and stuff like that

#142203 Yeh that's what I'm afraid of doing. Being in that trade yourself, would you say I've been over charged? Everyone says that's too much.

Thanks,
Paul

thats way to much, get quotes at other body/paint shops.
On this side of the pond there are place that will paint Bumpers for 400 USD(276Euros) and paint the whole car for 800USD(552Euros).

Granted that me doing my own prep work, However its a local "mom and pop" "custom" Paint shop that have been painting cars for years. They normally charge more then say macco(known for cheap crappy paintjobs)

Again check out other shops and see other price quotes. If it was me personally I would try painting it myself, I painted up a coupe Bumper for my Sedan and it turned out pretty good.

#142946 wait for the money to come. as hard as it may be to wait it will be worth it in the end and you wont have to worry about swapping anything. or get a personal loan.

#143315 Thanks for the advice, I'm going to stick with it and wait! Repair it and get it done and dusted!

Also I phoned another bodyshop and was given a rough quote for prepping, primer + paint for £500+VAT which is a lot better! Almost half the price!

Pictures (poor quality phone pictures)

#143437 Just really gutted that I spent £1,750 getting the bodywork all lush and a full respray then go and do that.

Learned my lesson, don't take a corner as quick on a bend you don't know. Ended up understeering into the barrier, luckily I twitched it last minute so the damage wasn't in one place. The front wheel took the impact really, fortunately the driveshaft, wishbone, coilovers etc are all good!

Got new Rota Slipstreams to go on once it's sorted in the next couple of weeks! Will post an updatein my build up thread once it's done!
