- Sat Sep 26, 2009 3:32 am #147483 I'm redoing my b series valve cover. I have everything i don't want painted, masked off, as well as one layer of primer, sanded, then a second coating.

First, if i am to paint this, i would like it to shine as much as possible. The color I am using is an OEM honda color that did come with flake in the paint. I would like it to shine, as the color changes to a more grey metallic color in the sun.

Phantom Grey Metallic.

What way would you recommend laying the paint on the valve cover? Spray gun or Spray can? How do you recommend i make it shine? I'm not to informed on clear coating, or anything of that nature.

If you have an opinion, or recommendation of technique or products, please share.

- Mon Sep 28, 2009 2:25 am #147732 One thing I would change about that write up is I wouldn't use so much primer. You really only need one or two coats. I've painted every valve cover I have ever had and never even used primer. Since the valve cover is aluminum it's not going to rust. If you do feel the need to use primer, you shouldn't use 1500 grit because it is just too fine. 600 grit should be the finest you use on primer. 1500 grit would be used for clear before you buffed because you wouldn't want a coarse grit on clear because you would see the scratches.
