toe in? toe out?

- Thu Oct 22, 2009 4:00 pm #152276 following a recentr crash i decided to sort my tracking out, i did this myself at college and now it reads that its paralell. great.
took the car out for a test drive and alls good until i release throttle. the car decides to go to one side and i nearly end up in a ditch.
this happens every time i put my foot down.
what do you think the problem is?

So your saying when you accelerate or stay at a steady rate the car drives straight correct?
But when you let out of the throttle it decides to pull in one direction?
Have you checked to make sure you done have a hung up caliper? I know it sounds like a long shot, but if you have done a correct alignment and everything is good. Then a hung caliper isn't to far of an idea.

- Thu Oct 22, 2009 5:15 pm #152309 i didnt remove anything in the process of sorting the allignment out so doubt it will be the calliper. thanks anyway. its hard to explain. like when its parked with the steering wheel straight both wheels point straight buit when driving the steering wheel is about 20 degrees counter clockwise until i floor it, at which point it corrects itself.

You aligned the toe on an alignment rack or using tools such as the ones that clamp on to the wheels?

- Thu Oct 22, 2009 9:00 pm #152367 Sounds like a trashed bushing or bolt missing in a suspension component.

Lift the wheels off the ground and grasp the wheel. Shake it up and down and then left to right. It should be 100% firm except for side to side it should move only with the steering wheel.

- Fri Oct 23, 2009 10:32 am #152470 not sure about caster but i used the tool where you place something on each wheel then look through a scope into a mirror. hard to explain unless you have used one. this is apparently a good methood. before i did this the car was 3 degrees tow out but now it reads 0 degrees toe out. before i corrected it i never had the problem which i now have. i dont have access to a ramp until im back at college which is 2 weeks away! should i maybe take it to a garage?

- Fri Oct 23, 2009 2:26 pm #152486 sounds very serious like maybe a bad tie rod end, a bad tie rod end would have slop in it, enough to make your toe off by a few \degrees while driving even after you set it to zero. it could be one side or both, only way to really check is like suspended sugested and jack up the front and check for wheel play.

- Fri Oct 23, 2009 3:03 pm #152492 because the car probably wore into driving correctly, and your probably not set at zero depending on the slop that could be there one side could be zero, the other could be positive a few degrees or the other way around, your ball in your tie rod end more than likely wore a slot in the eyelet of your tie rod end, causing the slop, but also giving it a reference point to drive from. its all kinda strange but the fact is worn parts can not be adjusted accurately.
