#162167 hey guys im pickin up a 90 civic hatch tommrow that has a b18b in it however it doesnt run properly...i think the swap was just done wrong really.

so my question is...can i get a list of what is needed to to put a b8b in a ef hatch? its gonna be my dd cause the eg is gonna be my weekend worrier :) thanks guys

#162334 Just like any B-series swap, you need the engine, transmission, shifter, shift linkage, mounts specific to your chassis, ECU, OBD-0 to OBD-I conversion harness, proper engine wiring harness, and the time/talent to do it.

What specifically is it doing, or not doing, that has you concerned?

#162428 well i have done 5 or 6 swaps already and can do them no problem its not soo much i need to know what parts but i need to know specifics like what ecu is the correct one and what wire harness is corect basically.

i doint really know the true symptoms yet as i get the car friday but from what im told it sputters hella bad and boggs alot so it doesnt move...

im sure i will be able to fix it no prob im just getting the first step outta the way

#162826 Proper ECU is P75 if it's a stock swap. Otherwise any chipped ECU will work.

The engine wiring harness will be self explanitory. If it doesn't fit, you need a different one. Obviously either an OBD-I or OBD-II harness. And the proper conversion harnesses.

You know what you'd need to fix the sputtering and such, so I won't go into that mess. But definitely check the ICM and the coil.

#162898 depending on the model of the hatch, you will need a dpfi to mpfi conversion harness along with the obd0 to obd1 harness.

Then ist just your basic stuff for a swap.

#162940 True, but only if he's reusing the harness the car originally came with.

He said the '90 hatch already has the B18B in it, so I'm going to guess it already has an OBD-0 to OBD-I conversion and the harness that was on the engine while it was still in an Integra. I could be wrong, I don't have as much information as I would like.

#162943 if hes picking up an EF Si it already has the mpfi, and whoever did the swap probably didnt convert it to OBD1, it would have been smarter to just reuse the stock d-series harness and add/extend a few wires. and even if it has dpfi, it isnt hard to wire in the resistor box. There is no need to convert to OBD1 while swapping a B into those cars

Im guessing if its sputtering and has no power, they probably didnt wire up the resistor box properly. Ive only done swaps on Si EFs and EDs, and they were relatively easy swaps... not much to mess up.

#162954 There's no resistor box on the B18B. Only on the B18A among the 1.8L B-series engines (I'm not sure if the B17 uses a resistor box).

#162963 the b17 does use a resistor box as well as EF's. and you wouldnt need to use the resistor box on the b17 as long as you swapped injectors if you were to swap it into say an OBD1 car.

And if you were to use a B18 A or B in a car that runs off a resistor box, you would need to use those ODB0 fuel injectors with that resistor box, Or go through the process of converting it to OBD1.

And theres no resistor box on engines, its in the bay, therefor you could use mostly any engine as long as the injectors were running on that box (unless of course you converted)

Pretty much, if the car has a b18b in it, chances are its running off a resistor box, unless its OBD1.

B18b might not need the resistor box, but the harness from the EF car does need it. unless he swapped to a complete obd1 harness he will have to use the box.

#162979 ok im suppppper confused :?

the car has a b18b in it.
the car has a resistor box under the hood i imagine its hooked up
its runnin a pr4 ecu

the kid said he bought a custom wire harness to put a b18 in a ef

my question is should i get the ls harness out of a 90 integra? thats seems like the right thing to do to me cause its for a b18 and for a obd0 car.

as of right now my plan is to get the 90 integra harness and just plug and play it into the motor/car. let me know what you think

#162984 If i were you, i would go and get an EF Si engine harness.
When i did a b16 swap in a friends CR-X Si, we used his factory harness

#163006 ok so its either order a 90 si wire harness or go to the junkl yard and get a 90 integra harness. iether way works for me

infact i wouldnt be surprised if both those harnesses are the same lol

#164007 It would have to be a custom harness for the B18B to be in the EF. OBD-0 car. OBD-I engine. Even with the resistor box and the OBD-0 ingectors, you'd need to swap some plugs and such.
