#167199 I have a 1994 Honda Civic Dx, and just changed the spark plugs. I took
it around the block, and it was running fine, but when I got back, I decided to take the plugs out and take a look at them, and at the bottom where it screws in they were black. Not all the threads, just the bottom one. A friend of mine says that this is because I am running rich. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

#167200 you didnt run them long enough for there really to be any buildup of anything it takes a good 100miles at least for something to start if you only changed your plugs you should be fine you only took a look at them a bit too quickly.....yea there may be buildup around the area but that coulda been from the other old plugs leaving resedue behind...

#167421 for anyone reading this post, I went outside today and it still didnt crank, so I sat there and I just kept trying to crank it, I wasnt giving it any gas or anything, but eventually it started sputtering I gave it a little gas and it crunk up, `but it sounded like a lawn mower and was putting out a good bit of smoke, I waited a few minutes, went out there and tried to crank it, and it crunk up and seemed to be running fine.??? If anyone has an idea what this might be just let me know, it would be greatly appreciated. Another thing is that it also seems to not want to start AT All when its cold, when it warms up, its still a bitch to crank, but once you get it crunk, it cranks up like new.

#167431 idk but how dose it start in the spring and summer?? is it semi freezing cold to freezing cold that it dosent seem to want to start??

if so then you may have condensation in your gas line or a frozen gas line or something like that check your gas line for rust or something that may have let water in a leak maybe small......

other things that it may be
-water frozen in the dizzy, if there was smoke what color was it it could be that somethings up with your motor internally forzen injectors only allowing some cylinders to fire unless warmed up .....possibly thats why it sounds like a lawnmower because its down cylinders....

#167432 I honestly dont know how it cranks in the spring and summer, I just bought the car. Im in Georgia so it usually gets down to about 20 degrees at night, and hovers around 40 degrees during the day. Something that just crossed my mind was the fact that the car has been sitting for 7 mths before I bought it, so maybe the gas isnt any good??? Would it be a good idea to drain the gas tank, and put some new gas in there??? I've also heard about this stuff called seafoam, and that it works wonders.. The main thing im trying to do is get the car running "like new". The engine only has 135,000 miles on it, and I've seen hondas with twice that running crazy good.

#167433 that is old gas. I would definitely drain it and fill up with new gas. Keep in mind, there is still going to be oldgas in the fuel lines so it won't get better right away. You can open your fuel line by the fuel rail and prime the fuel pump to move the rest of the old gas through. Don't keep priming the fuel pump when it is dry though, that can wear it out.

Check the DIY list, there's a DIY on draining your tank using the drain plug on the back :thumb:
