I'm looking for some thoughts on selling my condo/townhouse and buying a house. Since I have moved here in fall 2003, the monthly association fee has gone up $110
.
My neighbors on each side of me are cool. One guy is in his 50's and I rarely see/hear from him. But he's cool to BS with. The unit on the other side is rented out by the owner. I had some shitty neighbors for about a year, but the rest of the time that place has been empty or lived in by cool people.
3 units down though there is an old bitch with a ton of cats who complains about everything she can. I was having a BBQ last summer on Memorial day weekend and she called the fire dept because the grill smoke was burning her throat & eyes. So the fire dept shows up is the full Semi sized fire truck and made me put out the charcoal with water since it was a nuisance call. The thing that pissed me off was that SHE SMOKES!
When I bought this place the president of the assocation was a cool old guy who was real laid back. Now it is run by an old bitch, bitchier than the cat lady. This is when the monthly fees started going up. (now they are $300/mo)
The fees include outside building maintainence, trash/snow removal, landscaping, water, and heat. Yeah the free heat is nice. There's about 20 units in the association and some people must be abusing the free water/heat and maybe that's why the cost keeps rising, or maybe the association doesn't know how to manage money. I don't know
But on the other hand it's nice to get home from work and not have to mow the grass or shovel snow.
The only bill I get to pay is mortgage and electric co. (and cable/internet of course)
So I'm considering a house, no more of this condo BS. Or do I really not have it that bad now? Condo/townhouse owners, what is your experience like? Home owners, What's the good/bad for you?
I can't wait till spring so I can fire up my grill and piss that cat lady off
