- Mon Mar 22, 2010 3:41 pm #182861 im not 100% sure, but i have heard of dohc vtec motors with shaved heads, and that if you shave the head too much you can (not allways will but you can) loose a tooth off of your timing and then you have to advance the cam/ cams to pick up the diff. for what you lost in shaving the head and loosing a tooth off the timing belt, and this kinda cancels out what you gain in compression from shaving the head, i dnt see where this would be any diff with a sohc, as far as getting it surfaced for a fresh build, i would say take the least ammount off

but you will need and adjustable cam gear to correctly set cam timing.

if you are just 'skimming' to have a flat surface you should be ok.
unless, of course, the head is warped.
