- Wed Apr 21, 2010 3:13 am #188900 I have the same problem accept when my vtec wont kick int he engine sounds different like its not as loud as it should be. I checked all the wires nd I think one wire was not spliced all he way so fixed that and took it for a spin nd vtec was working good. Also saw that I was low on coolant so filled it up. Tyanx for all the good info Guys. Anyone know why it would idle low tho? Only happens when engine is hot.

get your car to operating temp, - drive around for a bit - , once the car is warm, pop the hood, on the throttle body there is an adjustment screw, turn it to the left till the idle goes up... i think its the left... try it, either way the idle will go down or up,


check timing

check your ecu... any codes?? ive personally had an ecu that would not throw any codes, and my car idled low, i replaced it with a spare and it ran perfect, could be the ecu...

only for obd2, obd1 is a lil diff

this is how u check for the cel on our civics
but mine is a lil diff i have a 2 wire plug that is blue

- Wed Apr 21, 2010 6:59 pm #189022 you can check for codes even when the CEL is off, this is known to us auto technitions as a "phantom code" as i like to call them "fubar" codes, ( IN CASE YOU ARE WONDERING ) "fubar" codes occur when there is an anomaly in the data algorithms within the ecu, such as too much data with little voltage, the ecu corrects this with a rectifier so it does not see any problem and will not throw a code up with the CEL.

do you live up in the mountains? higher altitude will throw a map sensor off and has been known to either cause high idle or low idle... just a thought.
