#188724 Hey all just a question, can a D be overheating because of timing being wrong?
User avatar
By forcefedEG
#188726 i would say probally not,

if your timing was off you may have a spark knock or detonation/ pre igniton... this is caused by the mixture igniting before the piston reaches TDC... but compression, grade of fuel used, ignition timing, heat range on your plugs... all play into this

if your engine is severly lean that could cause it to over heat... but this subject can get into a whole other mess of issues with tuning, grade of fuel and everything else...

but i would feel safe in saying that your igniton or cam timing would not directly affect your engine over heating....

#188772 if its and eg and has the oem radiator that could be the problem... hope you get it figured out

#188792 yip its an eg and its got the oem radiator and the car was sitting for a good 6 years before my dad and i started rebuilding it

#188808 Those OEM radiators are really the only weak part of the EGs. Those plastic end caps start leaking eventually. Get a nice knock off aluminum radiator with welded ends. Better cooling and you'll never have to worry about it springing a leak.

#188829 well the thing is there is no leaking problem

#189129 If it is sitting there for 6 years, i would check the T-stat

#189165 Any idle surge at all? Or white smoke?

Could be the head gasket.

#189206 Ive replaced the thermostat, no white smoke, brand new gaskets all round, i reckon i need to go get the radiator flushed

#189400 Check the fan switch make sure the fan turns on, also some times when the ECT(Engine Coolant Temp) sensor is getting ready to die on you, it will mark the car as over heating too. temp will go up and down. Do you have any check engine lights?

#189511 fan works and the temp doesnt go up and down, its in the middle for about 3 minutes then shoots up to the top, and when i pull over i can hear the water and coolant bubbling from the heat
