if your timing was off you may have a spark knock or detonation/ pre igniton... this is caused by the mixture igniting before the piston reaches TDC... but compression, grade of fuel used, ignition timing, heat range on your plugs... all play into this


if your engine is severly lean that could cause it to over heat... but this subject can get into a whole other mess of issues with tuning, grade of fuel and everything else...


but i would feel safe in saying that your igniton or cam timing would not directly affect your engine over heating....

- Tue Apr 20, 2010 4:48 pm #188753 yeah im not too sure whatsup with it but i reckon the raditor need to be replaced, i think the orginal one is blocked or something but me and my dad are going to look into it this weekend due to work constraints so for now i dont have a dd

- Tue Apr 20, 2010 6:29 pm #188808 Those OEM radiators are really the only weak part of the EGs. Those plastic end caps start leaking eventually. Get a nice knock off aluminum radiator with welded ends. Better cooling and you'll never have to worry about it springing a leak.

- Thu Apr 22, 2010 11:17 pm #189400 Check the fan switch make sure the fan turns on, also some times when the ECT(Engine Coolant Temp) sensor is getting ready to die on you, it will mark the car as over heating too. temp will go up and down. Do you have any check engine lights?

- Fri Apr 23, 2010 1:06 pm #189511 fan works and the temp doesnt go up and down, its in the middle for about 3 minutes then shoots up to the top, and when i pull over i can hear the water and coolant bubbling from the heat
