#190280 i got the motor from the guy 2 days ago. We drove it around and everything seemed fine. He also smogged his car with this same motor a couple days ago. It idles fine but when i swapped it in my car it sputters and backfires when i give it gas. When i floor it wont go past 2K. The timing is at 14 tdc. every plug is connected, its not giving me a CEL. stock everything. im also using the ecu he had in his car. Any help will be appreciated. I need to smog my car ASAP.

it was just some guy off CL. Everything was good when i saw it running in his car but i wasnt there when he actually took the motor out tho... so who knows. i lined up all the marks for the timing and they all lign up good. also changed the spark plugs, cleaned the dizzy cap. One thing i forgot to mention is that when i was doing the swap i had the front up on jackstands and i forgot that my gas tank was pretty much on E. i kept the motor running on for a while until it turned off. Thats when i noticed. Would this have caused the fuel pump to go bad or my fuel filter?

would also help to know what motor it is and which car you have.

i kinda though i did lol. i put "Z6" in the title. And at the end i put 93 ej2

#190329 make sure you dont have the map and tps sensors plugs switch they are the same plugs
that happen when i swap my d16a6 dont pass the 2k rpms
and i think the smog check is good for 90 days well here in vegas

im pretty sure i have them correct. i have the wire for the MAP sensor that comes from inside the car. And its not giving me any codes. Its 90 days here in cali also. But the thing is that this motor was used to pass smog in another car, not mine.

#190385 Check you cap and rotor! its like 30$ for a new one. Change it and it should be better.

#190475 Make sure your wires are in the right place.. sometimes pistons 1 and 2 get mixed up wires because they are the longer ones.

Also the ground from valve cover to rad support ..

check the idle air control valve plug in the back and the one to that vaccum filter thing behind the manifold.

seems like a wiring issue.

#191054 ok so i checked the cap and rotor and they seem ok. The rotor looks pretty clean and its not broken or anything. I have all the wires in the correct place. when i open the throttle all the way it bogs until like 2500k then i hear a popping sound coming from my stock intake box and then the motor starts to rev higher. what would cause that to happen? Does anybody think it might be my fuel pump? maybe it sucked up air or something? :? idk.. im out of ideas.

#191262 my z6 did this too when i first swapped it. 90% sure the tps and map sensor are switched or iavc is not plugged in.

#191264 im thinking it might be the iacv also. When i was doing the swap i accidentally pulled out the 2 wires that go into the plug. Does it matter which one goes where? Im thinking i might have messed something up if i didnt put them in the right way. Its not giving me a CEL tho. But of course when i unplug the sensor the CEL comes on. And im positive i have the MAP sensor and the TPS plugs right. I tried replacing the MAP sensor with another one i had laying around and nothing changed.
