#190351 so lately my car started idling pretty strangely. it would go up and down once in a while, but only sometimes. when i would turn on the heater it would idle normally on occasion (NOT ALWAYS). i have a check engine light and the code throws o2 sensor. would that be the case? i have a video to show you guys. anything will help thanks. #190377 i cant see your vid, but you should check your coolant level, possibly try and clean your idle air control valve by what your describing :thumb:

#190382 theres a metal plate on the bottom fo the throttle body where the coolant lines go in, (3 or 4 screw), remove the plate, there is a set screw with a plastic washer of some sort that comes loose, clean and re tighten this, its a known problem for a sohc... :thumb:

#190389 replace your 02 sensor before you try to diagnose any problem with your engine. A bad o2 will make it run horrible.

I'd check your coolant for air pockets, bleed the coolant system :thumb:

#190467 Yea what Forced EG and teal Said. that would be the fast idle valve. it's like a spring type valve thing. that when heated by the coolant it opens or closes to let the idle go down to normal. i had the same issue a few months back. i changed my IACV and it was still doing it but not as much. changed the fast idle valve and now it's still at normal level today.

definately check your coolant for air in the system. the way to do that, top coolant hose. ull see a 12mm nut with a tip. just turn that open u should see steam and coolant come out.. if there is no air in the system just coolant will squirt out.

but 1st get rid of the Check engine light with a new O2 sensor. around 30-40 bucks at autozone or your local parts store..

Then remove and Clean the Idle Air Controll Valve ( IACV) with Throttle body cleaner.

put it back on. try it. if it still does it. it's your Fast idle valve. 58 bucks new at hondapartsnow.com

It's on the throttle body. On the z6 it's on the underside, on the b7 I think it's on the back (but I'm not compeltely sure).

#190758 You have to reset the ECU. The ECU has a memory where it stores info about how to run your car better. It has been compensating for your high idle by trying to close the IACV as much as it can. It stores the base IACV opening size in it's memory and will always go back and start there. From the under-hood fuse box, pull the 7.5A ECU backup fuse and wait a few minutes. Then put it back in. After you drive the car once or twice it should be good. Or you can just keep driving it until it learns the new value.

Sometimes the ECU is stubborn and wont reset. I've read somewhere that you have to start it, let it idle up to operating temp w/out hitting the brake, then kill it and start it again.
