#194847 Okay well if your reading this right now I appreciate your time
I need some advice and I will be as honest as I can.

I will explain my situation.
I have a 1992 DX HB. I bought it for $700. Fixed most of what was wrong with it except the engine work for I am not capable of doing this work. Physically I am but I have no idea what im doing really.
Valves need to be adjusted cause ticking.
belts and tensioners need to be replaced.
Oil leek from gaskets and or seals from behind timing belt.
Let me try to explain this part.
The owner before me replaced the timing belt but did not tighten something to where it destroyed the crankshaft. So now my crankshaft has to be replaced.

MY question is. I have $680 which is what my friend told me it would cost for him to fix it plus labor. The crankshaft is a brand new problem. I have to let him know wether to fix all of this... or to minnie me swap to a y8..
or to swap entire engines.

I think I will have him fix everything. Daily drive it and save up enough money to H22 swap it or B18c_ swap it . I know I should be workin on my car myself but I need these problems fixed and cant learn soon enough. What should I do

#194861 You're better off getting a low mile, JDM engine. If you rebuild it, you'll spend more and it's very easy to do some little thing wrong and having the engine fail again.

x2

It would probably be a lot easier just to swap. Mini-me definitely is a good possibility, seeing that your bottom end doesnt suck. I would just check into a JDM d15b vtec. Theyre fairly inexpensive and a lot of fun to drive!

Good luck on everything :thumb:

1. All D series tick. I'm sure it's fine.
2. That would be a main seal which isn't a huge job, but added to your list of problems, I wouldn't bother.
3. Probably the Underdrive pulley, also known as the Harmonic Balancer. Chances are the person that owned the car before you was like every other 16 year old ricer and thought they could do a timing belt without using an impact gun or torque wrench, and it backed off and rounded off the end of your crank.

I agree with what was already said. Buy a JDM D15B for like $400, put your tranny on it and do the direct swap. It would get you from point A to point B reliably and faster than your current engine.

#195543 ^ i looked at that website. Decent prices.

Am I better off with the Honda Civic D15B (W/3-Stage VTEC) (96-00)

Theres other listings too
Honda Civic DX/CX/LX D15B (96-00)
Honda Civic / CRX D16A8 / ZC (88-91)

Should go for the Honda Civic D15B (W/3-Stage VTEC)(96-00) ?

If i get this engine will i have to get a new transmission?

or does a 1992 D15b7 tranny fit to the 96-00 D15B?

#195568 pretty much...
you will need the vtec ecu (p28)
aaand u need to run two wires from the ecu to the vtec solenoid
pretty painless

#198264 will a Civic D15B (W/3-Stage VTEC) (96-00) bolt right up in my 1992 hatchback. D tranny.

#198270 it will bolt right up :thumb:
wiring will be another story... That's an obd2 motor, no factory obd1 ecu is going to be able to properly run that engine.

I'd make a new post about this swap and wait for suspendedhatch to chime in. He had this exact setup in his old EG. Or even do a search for his build thread about the car to get an idea what is involved. If I remember, it was tuned on AEM and converted to coil on plug ignition. 8)

#198285 Throttle cable isn't the right length. Relocate the IAT sensor to the intake pipe. The intake manifold/throttle body/IACV need to be from a manual trans car if you have a manual trans. Convert to OBD2. Find rare P2J ECU.

Eh. It was unique and a lot of fun, but if I ever have an EG again (not likely), I would just drop a B16 or B18B in it and call it a day.

Get yourself an OBD1 JDM D15B or SOHC VTEC ZC. Get a P28 and add the VTEC wire. I would strongly recommend getting it with the trans because VTEC trans gearing makes all the difference.
