- Fri May 21, 2010 3:18 pm #195919 There is no such thing as a 96 D16Z6. They were discontinued at the end of 95. Look at the stamp on your block next to the exhaust manifold and see what you have.

Our cars don't have coil packs.

- Sat May 22, 2010 11:00 pm #196214 So finally the mechanic got back to me today and set my engine runs excellent, and the reason why my car goes so slow into each gear is because of my aftermarket flywheel and stage 3 racing clutch, he said that in order to switch gears you have to have a high rpm range and that is why is is not a very good daily driver. So I am just going to get the stock flywheel and stock clutch, since I am not going to be racing my car or putting and major hp into it. When I am buying the clutch do I just buy the clutch disk or the whole clutch kit? Oh and I never got a used fuel filter it was new for $17 from Napa.

- Sun May 23, 2010 1:52 pm #196299 I would just buy everything new. You can get sock flywheels re-surfaced if you want to save a little.

I'm not sure I understand what the mechanic means by the car goes slow into gear because of the stage 3 clutch & light flywheel... Yeah you might need a little more RPM to keep from stalling, but I'd see if you can get used to it first before you pay for another clutch job = not cheap I imagine!

- Sun May 23, 2010 7:21 pm #196337 Well I can drive the car fine it is just not a good daily driver, you really have to keep driving fast in order for it to drive well. I found a flywheel for $60 and a clutch for $70 and the mechanic will charge around $300 to install so not too bad. The mechanic wanted to charge me around $300 for the flywheel and $250 for the clutch which is crazy. After this fix the only older piece will be the transmission but that is still good and I guess my clutch was ready to go 5 months ago so it is time for a new one.

- Mon May 24, 2010 1:37 am #196383 Okay my dad is a mechanic and had a 88 honda and told me that mechanic is full of crap and a flywheel or clutch would not make an engine sputter and back fire and when he took his car to the honda dealer it was called an electronic modulator that is screwed in directly under the distributor and that it fixed the problem right away and what is the exact name of this electronic modulator under the distributor called?

Not ever since I got a new ECU there has been no more check engine light.

I heard once a car starts to warm up it is either the coil or ICM (Ignition Control Module) I will replace these and see.

- Tue May 25, 2010 1:07 am #196584 Yes new wires ans plugs, new cap and rotor, new fuel filter, new oil and coolant, timing is right, fuel injectors are working, I have put Lucas cleaner in it, and so I have ser my mind on it that it is either the ignition coil or ICM, I bought a new ignition coil today and then I will just buy a whole new distributor because they are the same price online than a new Ignition control module.
