#199381 Alright so I have a d16z6 with a d15b7 bottom and it passed smog. Anyway well I've noticed a knocking noise from the motor I think. I'm actually unsure where the noise is coming from. I was wondering where the knocking could be coming from? I also have a bent pulley and it wobbles so maybe it could be that?Maybe a bad bearing or a rod knock? I know it's hard if your not able to see and hear the motor in person, but I was hoping maybe I could be pointed in the rite direction.

#199401 The pulley is a harmonic balancer, that smooths out your engine as the bottom isn't perfectly counter balanced. having that bent or not on correctly puts more stress on the crank, rods and rod bearings.

to find where the noise is coming from, take a vacoom cleaner hose or any other large hose and use it to scope where the noise is coming from.

you hold one end to your ear and use the other to aim around in the engine bay to find the source of the noise.

#199585 Yea I adjusted the timing several times before I could pass smog with this mini me. The timing was at 18 so I barely passed with the timing. I keep hearing that when doing a mini me swap you need to get an adjustable cam gear so I finally bought one but haven't put it on yet. As far as my power steering pulley goes I took a big flat head and bent the pulley back so now it doesn't wobble really.

#199586 Also I took my car to my Machanic and he said it's def not a rod knock. So my guess would be since my timing is off and since my car is idleing not so well then maybe that could be the knocking?

#199594 it could be detonation if the timing is too advanced, especially if you're only using 87 octane with advanced timing.

A bent power steering pulley won't have any affect on your engine internals, we thought it was your crank pulley that was bent. :thumb:

#199596 Well the knocking stopped so I'm not sure.
