Pcv valve?

- Sun Aug 01, 2010 10:27 am #206985 Alright I have a mini me d16z6 head with a d15b7 block in my si hatch and my cat went out and after my cat went out a week later my car started to leak a little oil. I've been doing some research and sounds like the pcv valve could be the problem, but I'm not sure. I still haven't had time to change the cat yet. Can it be the cat or pcv valve? I had changed the crank seal and head gasket along with some other seals when I did the swap. I even took it to my mechanic and he couldnt pin point the lil leak. I also did a new oil change on my car last week. It's buggin the he'll out of me tryna fig this out so please help if possible

do you mean he couldn't pin point :?

When you park at night and the next day you have a spot under the car, pop the hood and stand directly over the spot and look down at what's near by to leak from.

It's possible to be the pcv valve but not likely. it can become clogged with blowby, but if it is leaking it would be from a loose hose clamp on one end which would also mean a vacuum leak because it is between the black crankcase box and the intake manifold.

Take it out and wipe it off. if you can't suck/blow through it it is time to replace.

Look all around your block/head for traces of oil. Under the timing cover too. Let us know if you find anything

Also I took my car to my machanic and put it on his lift and kinda odd but we can't see where in the he'll that leak is coming from exactly becuz the oil is running along the brim of the block and oil pan and onto other stuff. Also since my cat went out could that cause any oil to leak since there is no back preassure?

- Tue Aug 03, 2010 2:15 am #207208 Lol.. your cat going shouldnt make oil leak it's an exhaust part. .. When you did your seals, your mention you did you crank seal, what about the one on the other end behind the flywheel, that's the rear main seal. also check where your axles enter. those axle seals tend to go out too. best bet if you go back clean everyhting up with engine cleaner or a good cleaner to get an idea.. the PCV is an L shaped piece. to find it look for the biggest hose running from the top of your intake mani into right around where the injectors are. there is another hose that connects to the bottom of it on the under side of the manifold.....

- Tue Aug 03, 2010 3:18 pm #207262 PCV is $3. If it's old, just replace it. Or you can try to clean it out with some carb spray. But to confirm if it's bad, shake it and you should feel the ball rolling back and forth inside and clicking hard. No movement and it's bad which will cause crankcase pressure to force through your valve cover gasket and leak oil. And yes it could cause you to burn oil and destroy your cat converter.
