- Sun Aug 08, 2010 12:42 am #207898 ok so the metal power steering lines that run across the driver side motor mount i accidentally cut does any one know the size of that line?

because i was gonna get some AN-fittings and flare it and screw it back together.

that or open the tube back up with a screw driver and hose clamp a rubber hose in btween the 2 pieces and call it a day.

what do you guys think i should do??

Do not try a rubber tubing and hose clamp.
Do it right, either flare it or replace it.

You should be able to pick up a replacement high pressure line from a local wrecking yard very cheap.
You will need a 12mm tubing wrench to remove the line. If the car does not have an engine it isn't too bad to remove with the proper tools.

ya those compression fittings are made for steel line.

for a quick repair I would just use that or do like the others suggested and replace the entire line.

flaring is a pain in the but and it's just a p/s line. if it was brake lines I would say it's required to flare.

I have fixed lots of fuel lines and other lines other then brake lines with the compression fitting and they are extremely easy to use and work great

- Sun Aug 08, 2010 9:59 pm #208058 ok well im going to do the compression fitting for now then, i am no anxious at all to replace the entire line for the reason that my b18c1 is in the car and its super charged making that power steering line almost impossible to get to. maybe when i pull the head off the motor to rebuild it in the next couple weeks ill replace the entire line. thanks alot guys for the help

- Mon Aug 16, 2010 6:09 am #209110 Ok so I was looking at the line and I think I may take my chances and use a rubber hose and a gnarley hose clamp because if you look aboiut a foot past where I cut the line it goes to a rubber hose anyhow.

Anyone see any reason not too now that we know it already goes to a rubber hose?

- Mon Aug 16, 2010 2:36 pm #209130 yeah but that oem fitting you are looking at is a barbed fitting, not a hose clamp.
Try it if you want, but those lines see a good amount of pressure. I would not do it. When it fails you'll have a big mess and contaminate your steering system with any dirt that gets in the hose..
