#207897 ok i got a s/c gsr and the guy said the bottom end was fully rebuilt last year. the head was not and the guy says the head needs new valve guides/ seals badly. my question is does this sound like only valve seals/guides??

with the tube that runs from the v/c to the intake disconnected and car running blue smoke pours out of it.

i dont believe there is any blue smoke coming from the muffler thus making me believe that the bottom end was rebuilt and it is indeed the head leaking.

let me know what you guys think? im gonna start collecting head rebuild parts so i can get this suckker movin :)

#209094 OK so we determined that the problem is definatly the valve guides on cylinder two. Because when I took off the header all the exhaust. Ports are dusty and cylinder two is soaking wet with oil.

Now the question is how hard is to replace the valve guides. Or are there any TIPS? I bought this cool little tool from harbor freight for removing valve springs withouht removing the head.

If I'm correct the guides slide on the valve stem from the top right?

#209108 I would check the valve SEALS first. A much easier and cheap fix. Valve guides invole taking the head off and stripping it down, sending it to a machine shop for them to be replaced.

#209242 No, they get pressed out through the top of the head, then pressed in through the combustion chamber side of things. It's nearly impossible to get it perfectly straight without the presses and precision machinery of a machine shop.

#209257 Valve seals you can replace with out removing the head, its just not easy. The valve might drop down on you as well. Since the valve springs have to be removed to get to the valve seals.

you can get a kit at your local repair/parts store/tool guy "may have to order it" make sure the valves on the cylinder your changing the seals are closed then you take out the spark plugs and install there special fitting that threads in in staid of the spark plug and you can put compressed air to the cylinder with a air regulator and it will hold your valves up.

If the valves won't stay closed with a lot of air then I would recommend removing the head anyway because it would indicate leaky valves and would require replacement or machine shop tools!!
