D15, D16, D17 and Mini-Me swaps
By DannyCraQ
#22287 Sorry. first time posting here, and well ive looked all around the net, and basically im sorta stuck on what to do.

Okay, well lemme start by saying, the original engine in my 1995 civic dx is a d15b7 and well a rod went straight throught eh bottom and throught he oil pan, so i said crappppp i need a new engine, so i head down to good ol los angeles and pick up a d15b(well thats what it says on the block, but i dont think its vtech, cause mine wasnt, and i dont need it) and it looks identical to mine. anywho, i yanked the radiator, fuel line, the power steering, the ac, the header, the air intake system, disconnected all sensors,(on the engine), disconnected all the hoses and it looks bare, now, it doesnt look as if the axles are going through the engine, so my question is, can i yank the engine by dropping the tranny to the bottom and pull the engine out top with a hoist?

another thing, the engine i bought which i was told has roughly 35k on it(still has the oil filter from japan) and where it connects to the tranny, its got like a flywheel? well something to connect to a manual transmission, as ive got a automatic, ive drained the tranny fluid, and it feels like its ready to be yanked, but im not sure how i should actually go about doing that at this point, ill take some pics and post em up as i just now remembered maybe i shoulda taken some LOL. anyway, this is my first swap and i catch on pretty fast, as far as the torque wrench goes, whats the pounds per pressure do the mounting bolts go at? if you dont understand me, im sorry im a big noob to this shit and i wanna get this yanked. now on the new engine i pulled the manual pump put the plate where that was and changed the distributor to my american(ha) one. now so that i didnt lose anything i simply placed all the bolts and intake bs on the new engine (not tight but merely laid on)

i was reading another thread on how to drop the engine out, but i went to all thsi trouble of getting a lift and putting it together that i feel i owe it to myself to use the darn thing. anybody got some tips? if i left anything out that you experts would know, please let me know so i can do that.

thanks much - danny

#22299 as far as the manual to auto goes i cant help ya but with pulling the motor with a lift just do it really slow and make sure you everything is disconnected. i pulled mine through the top in about 20 min.. for torquing you mounting bolt i always use an air gun and i just tighten down as far as the gun will put it

#22301 ahhhh ok for sure, good looking out, cause when i picked up the engine, dude told me it should just connect right in but i havent seperated the tranny and block yet, im guessing theres a tranny forum on this site, so ima go check that out. thanks much

#22304 for your axles you loosen that nut in the center of your brake caliber once you have the nut out turn the wheel and pull on the axle it should pop right out of the tranny

#22307 if your motor was auto and the new one is manual, then you need to use the flex plate (skinny flywheel looking thing with all the holes) from your old motor and use the old flex plate bolts to put it on. be sure to torque them down evenly :thumb:

also you will need to use the automatic throttle body too
By DannyCraQ
#22314 yea thats what i was told bout the throttle body

and thats what i figured about the plate on the old engine

also, would it be safe to say to swap the timing belt and timing belt tensior?

they seem alright to me. thanks teal and d15kid yall be alot of help

#23820 i would put the following on the new engine...oil pan gasket, front and rear main seal, water pump(and new gasket),timing belt, timing belt tensioner, and maybe if you are wanting the motor to last buy a new oil pump for it. :thumb:

#23830 okay for sure, problem with the new engine is, theres i believe 6 bolts on the clutch that was already on it, but every time i try to take it off, the wheel spins, is there anyway to counteract that so it doesnt do it?
