#14445 So if I put my Y5 head on my Z6 (SOHC VTEC ZC to be more precise) block, I get 10.9 compression ratio?! That can't be right.

#14446 Sounds correct to me, the Y heads have smaller combustion chambers than the Z6 and D15b* heads do. So when you slap a Y head on a D16z6 or D15 block, it bumps up compression.
I ran a D16y8 head on a D15b7 block and it was a good mini-me setup, but I had to use higher octane gas because of the higher compression ratio.

#14562 Actually, I just noticed you said Y5 head. If you're considering that head, I'd look for a Y8 instead. The y5 head is vtec-e from the 96-00 civic HX and is different than the z6/y8 vtec heads. The y5 hx motor uses a "lean burn" mode when cruising to get good gas mileage. In lean burn mode, the 4 valve head switches to 3 valve operation with one intake and 2 exhaust valves per cyl.

The y5 also uses a specific ecu, the obd2 P2N, to do all that stuff.
