#25141 Wow, what a surprise. The delivery guy comes, and they want nearly $40 ($39.76) in brokerage fees for clearing a $30 item that was shipping to me from the US.

I have been doing some research and a lot of others complain about UPS's OUTRAGEOUS brokerage fees and how they think it's an overinflated scam. This item was a deal to me after the cost and shipping, but not after I pay another $40.

The one argument I found interesting is that UPS acted as my broker without my informed consent, and therefore, I should not have to pay those fees, but I would have to clear the item myself. Does anyone have any experience fighting with UPS or has anyone ever refused to pay their brokerage fee? I think I'm gonna speak with them today but I have a feeling this won't be easy...

#25143 Good luck to ya, chances are you're not going to get very far, UPS is a bitch like that.

Have you checked with Fedx to see about their brokerage fee's??

#25146 well i know exactly what you mean, i have been having issue with them as well... i am just annoyed that my current package that is being sent to me is coming through UPS as well :x ...

My current experience so far this year
$600 exhaust = $114 in customs(UPS)
$300 Hid supplies = $39 in customs(FedEx)
$100 Projectors = $22 in customs(FedEx)
Free Clock = $12 in customs :?(UPS)
New headlights = TBD (UPS)
AEM Sri = $0(USPS) (labeled as gift on package)

This whole non free trade thing is bullshit, i mean before Bush came in and then Harper came up here things like this were fine $0 customs fees i hope that who ever come to power next puts the free trade back in place

#25148 When I had things shipped through USPS and then through Canada Post they just drop them off in my hands, no signature, no fee, NOTHING. These damn courier companies are running HUGE scams like this.

I'm gonna be bitching and complaining as much as I can, because I certainly think that they had no business acting as my broker if I didn't give them permission. UPS has the highest brokerage fees of all private couriers, and they're not the quickest either.

I'll post updates here, but I am not paying $40 brokerage that's for damn sure. :x

#25151 Cool man, let us know. Cause i have a feeling that i will be putting up a stink soon, cause i will be getting my package as well.

I don't know what is worse when they show up at your door, and say there is a cash on delivery, or when you get a notice in the mail saying you owe money :x :x :x

#25158 There is strength in numbers too, if we find that we are both getting nothing from them, maybe we can do something on a larger scale together, and with more people as well.

It's totally ludacrous, and going through my bank statements and paycheques, I'm one complain away from going on a rant about federal taxes and bank fees lol. :x

#25162 USPS is best when shipping to Canada, but larger items are more through them.

I found that if you claim the item at $20 or less when shipping UPS then there's no charge.

Or claim gift FTW :thumb:

The retarded thing is these fees were created way back when our US dollar was worth twice as much as the Canadian dollar. Now your dollar is about to pass ours in value and the fees are still the same

#25165 I just sent off an angry e-mail to TD Waterhouse regarding the "inactivity fees" on my brokerage account. I demanded they waive the $60 in fees because it represents their greed and desire to make money no matter what the circumstance. We'll see what happens, if they do, it'll be one small moral victory for me and only fuel the fire for more argument with other organizations.

Anyone else have any stories or corporate greed or lack of customer courtesy? I know they're out there, everyone wants the money out of your pocket these days...

When I find out who sent this package through UPS I'm gonna be sending them an email too and recommending they NEVER use UPS again to send to Canada. I tell EVERY seller to send the item as a gift or with a value of $0 though as well.

$40 to clear one fucking package though, that's just greed man. Multiply that X 1000 packages a day for UPS and that's a lot of profit. I don't see how it can cost more than $5 to do 5 minutes of paperwork to clear a $30 package. Plus shipping fees on top of that...UPS is making a killing, I think it's about time it stopped.
